Guest guest
Deanna, I feel the same way you do....pretty much to a T. I haven't seen my PCP since I got pregnant. My gyne shows me gaining 9 pounds since my first appt. I totally disagree with his scale. I had lost weight the first trimester due to morning sickness. At my 2nd visit, I had weighed myself on my own scale that morning at 144, and when I went into the office their scale weighed me at 156...I was like holy crap!! I mean a 12 pound difference. The first visit it was only a 4 pound different from their scale to mine. So, as far as their records show they have me starting at 152 pounds and at my last visit 161.....My scale says 155. We'll see what their scale says on Wednesday when I have another visit. According to what I have been watching for the past month, I have only gained a couple pounds. My OB says I am doing fine. Not too worry. That we have to gain weight. My husband thinks I don't eat enough. I feel like I eat all the time. I truly hate snacking. Even though I choose healthier foods than I would have pre op, I still feel like I doing something wrong. I am craving carbs like mad. I hate it. I am 22 weeks myself so I right behind you. I don't think you are gaining too fast personally. I feel like I am a weirdo since i am hardly showing at all. Do you have a cute little pregnant belly to finally show off??? It totally freaked me out when my regular pants wear too snug to wear. It was a real battle to finally give in to the maternity pants. I swore I would never wear elastic waisted pants once I lost all the weight. Are you gaining anywhere else besides your belly??? I am just curious why your PCP is thinking you are gaining too much too early. If your are just belly, what's the big deal?? I am almost 2 years out and I can completely understand your fears with eating and gaining weight. I have read a lot that post op pregnant women comsume more and after the baby it subsides. How that works really puzzles me. And to be honest, I don't know if I want to find out if that's the case. I still watch myself. I don't want to just say, oh , I am pregnant it doesn't matter. Because it does. I wish things didn't have to be so difficult. Well, sorry to be so long winded. It's nice to know that I am not alone. Hope I made you feel a little better. Feel free to email me anytime!! Guest guest
Beverly My gyn says im all baby so just a little belly showing not gaining any where else that i know of, but i could be wrong! lol...i think my dr was just being cautious because of my previous weight problem but he is young and blond and i think when he bleached his hair it soaked up into his brain lol...but in any case i just put photos of my belly on my photo album under deanna wise .. i think he thinks i have gained more in a shorter period of time too becuz his nurse wrote sloppy and he got himself all confused .. but it still bothered me to no end because now its all i think about. I have been eating more and snacking because i am hypogycemic and have already passed out at the grocery store because of it so i eat every couple of hours .. I have read in books and on here that i am right on track so i am still puzzled by his comment and will check with my gyn on it to make sure im on track i certainly dont want to gain to much weight and have problems getting it off after the baby.. i dont think you have gained to much either and i think what i am gonna do is just weigh myself on my scale every time i got to the drs and go by that number because as i said before its usually a 3 pnds difference not to mention when i go to the drs i have eaten, drank water and im wearing my clothes.. as for your drs scale wow that is way off, i would go by your scale since you weigh yourself mostly on that one. thanx for writing and yes i do feel better knowing im not alone sometimes i feel guilty i certainly want my baby to be healthy and want him more then anything in the world and know i have to gain weight for him so that helps me too.. keep in touch with me and let me know how things go, we can compare notes at drs app's! Guest guest
I think you are doing great and I do not see 15 pounds as too much at all. There hae been others on this group who have gained more than that in the first 2 trimesters and even the 3rd and have lost it all right after the baby is born. I would listen to the Ob/gny and go by what they want for a healthy baby. You will lose the weight after the baby is born, Promise. SOme say it comes off easier than their other pre-op pregnancies. Please try to not stres the weight. I think you are doing a great job HUGS, ROBIN, NY Age- 41 Due Date- #4 July 27th, 2004 OPEN RNY 10-18-02 378/246/170??? Guest guest
Deanna, I looked at your pictures. You look great. You do look like just belly like your OB says. Believe it or not, I am jealous of you!! I want to " look " pregnant. I don't have a belly hardly at all. Not enough to wear maternity tops anyway. I will keep you updated, I have an appointment with my OB on Wednesday so let's see how off his scale is compared to mine!! LOL Hugs!! Guest guest
Deanna and Beverly, Try not to worry. Listen to your OBs, both of whom are saying that you're on track. From what I've read, the guideline is for " normal weight " women to gain between 25 and 35 pounds. I know that after WLS, it takes a long time to feel " normal " , but you ARE normal now! So you should gain weight! It is really hard to see the scale going up, and believe me, I check it every day. I started pregnancy a little above normal, so I'm hoping not to gain more than 25 pounds, but even that will put me over 200 again, and I'm not thrilled about that. But I keep reminding myself that it's for the baby. I am trying to focus less on how much I gain and more on making healthy choices and eating when I feel hungry. It's hard to make healthy choices all the time, especially since I'm also suffering from hypoglycemia, so sometimes I have to eat something right away, whether there's a healthy snack available or not. But all we can do is our best, and I weigh every day just to make sure I'm keeping in check. And the good news is that we still have the " tool " of WLS to help us lose the weight after the baby arrives. Please don't let your doc make you feel bad, Deanna, especially since your OB is happy with your progress. Sometimes docs can be well meaning but have no idea how their comments affect us. People who have never been obese just can't possibly understand. My OB, knowing that I'm a WLS patient, said he wanted my weight to stay pretty constant. I totally blew that remark off -- I'm almost 3 years post op! If I were still losing weight from the surgery, it would be a different story, but there's no way I could not gain weight. At my last appt, I was about 16 or 17 weeks (I get confused!), and I'd gained 5-6, and he was happy with that, so apparently he'd forgotten his comment about not gaining. I think when he said it, he was just not thinking about how long ago I'd had my surgery. Some of our friends on this list are more recent post-ops and will not gain as much, or maybe even keep losing. But don't forget that you had already lost your weight, so you NEED to gain for your baby. I know it's easier said than done, but please try not to be so hard on yourself!!! I hope this helps some. We definitely are in the same boat, and sometimes we just need each other to remind us not to worry. Happy V-Day!
