Guest guest
Neck muscles are rarely rested, unless we lay down. I guess it a good thing - no heads flopping around. For this reason, I think they use up their cellular energy rapidly and then they react as mito muscles do when energy depleted. This is just logic on my point and not something a doctor has told me. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Tue, 28 Dec 2004 13:26:04 -0000 > To: > Subject: Muscle and Neck Issues > > > Thanks everyone for replying to my post about muscle and neck pain, > I am seeing a PT who has a Doctorate in Sports Medicine, so I feel > pretty comfortable in his abilities to preform massage and ultrasound > treatments. Guest guest
Yes, my understanding is that many muscle diseases share this problem. I have a friend with FSH muscular dystrophy and she fights very similar neck and back problems. We have exchanged potions and strategies, mostly to no avail. I have heard the same stories from patients with various muscle diseases. For me there is a kind of vicious cycle in that muscle weakness has created a very abnormal posture-like a question mark--which in turn puts more stress on neck and back, which further weakens postural muscles, which further worsens posture, etc.. Even when I don't have spasms I have an intense pressure centered on the lower neck that is identical to what happens following lumbar puncture only lower on the neck. I find it harder to deal with pressure than the spasms. I imagine that any muscle related problem could be blamed on this wonderful illness. Guest guest
When I began sleeping with a Tempura pillow to support my neck, my neck and back tension as well as my episodes of vertigo almost disappeared immediately. I had earlier used an Isotonic pillow shaped the same, but slightly higher, and that pillow made it worse. The angle of the arch apparently needs to be chosen carefully, and the Tempura pillow molds more fully to my neck than the Isotonic pillow. A friend of mine has also needed to wear a foam wrap around her neck, which she finds helpful in supporting her neck during the day. > > Thanks everyone for replying to my post about muscle and neck pain, > I am seeing a PT who has a Doctorate in Sports Medicine, so I feel > pretty comfortable in his abilities to preform massage and ultrasound > treatments. Guest guest
I have to agree about the Tempura pillow. It has done amazing things for my neck problems. My husband used it one night when I was at work and the very next day we had to get another one for him. I am now seriously considering the mattress topper. Has anyone used one of those?
