Chrystal, I sure don't blame you at all and I was thinking as I was reading

that you needed to go back to your old OB and then Is ee you already put the

call in. Good, I would not feel comfortable with just anyone as my doc either

and it is not right to just send you to the ER everytime you call them, how

frickin stupid is that. I am praying your doc takes you back on as a patient and

you can tell the others to bite your butt, but they would probaly justt ell you

to go to the er for that too, damn fools. Good Luck,

I would leave as well. that makes no sense I don't like that at all. you have

every right to be upset. your Dr should KNOW you and your case you shouldn't

have to go to an ER when you need your Dr they should be around. As for the

nurses response you should have told her well then if your a teaching hospital

teach your staff and Dr. how to give a damn!

Chrystal,

First off HUGS!!!!!! Secondly I too see a perinatologist (Maternal Fetal

Specialist), and she isn't " the friendliest " and getting an appt is HARD I've

NEVER gotten a reply like that! I *also* have a regular OB I see as well who

delivers my children, because being a specialist (my peri) she has SO many

patients and doesn't have time to devote 1:1 attention. As for the ER comments

unbelievable!! My co-pay for pregnancy is $5 at my first visit and then nothing

more. U/S, OB visits, Peri visits, ER visits (if my ob sends me), and any

testing is covered!

Chrystal,

YES! You are absolutely being reasonable! Sweetie, I am so there with you

right now. Your description of your frustration with your doctors sounds

EXACTLY like what I was saying when I was/is frustrated with my doctors. Its

like they think your just a bunch of words on a chart, not a real person who has

to live every day, and then they add the worrying and wondering on top of

everything else, it just sucks. When I was in such excruciating pain this last

weekend, in tears because I could not even fall asleep to escape the pain, I

placed calls to my rheumatologist and my OB's office. I quickly got a call back

from the OB's office but of course it wasn't MY OB. I briefly told him that I

was 34 weeks and my arthritis was flaring, I had taken all the pain meds I was

allowed and got no relief and I really needed to speak to my OB. He said, well,

I can't get ahold of him and I really can't call anything in for you. By this

time I was in tears again and I told him thats not what I called for anyway so

just forget I called. When I called the rheumatologist I found out the doc who

dumped me on my current rheumy because she claimed my " case was too complicated "

(what the heck does that mean???), so I knew that was going no where because IF

she did call me back she couldn't help me anyway. All this craziness prompted

my hubby and I to wonder what the hell was going to happen if my health really

took a down-turn and it was a Sunday, how would my actual doctors be contacted?

When I saw my actual rheumatologist this last Tuesday we questioned him about

this and he said that any of the doctors in the practice could take care of me.

I reminded him of how I was dumped on him because one of the other docs said my

case was too complicated for her and he said that even she would be able to help

me in an emergency situation. Needless to say this didn't make my husband nor I

feel better at all!!!

I guess I am learning from all this crap I have been going through, (and it

sounds like your going through similar stuff), is that I am definitely going to

speak my mind from here on out no matter what. I don't care anymore if I offend

my docs or make them feel uncomfortable, they should be accountable to me and my

care or I will go find another doc. I usually end up being a softy and cave in

to try it " their way " instead of doing what I want to do. What usually happens

is down the road we usually end up doing what I wanted in the first place, I

have just had to endure months of suffering in the name of doing it " their way " .

I have to learn to trust that I know best what I need for my healthcare, and now

I know I will have to take this attitude about my child, especially since I'm

breastfeeding while on meds. You stick to your guns Chrystal, you know what is

best for you! If you need to be seen on a particular day don't go to the ER, I

say go sit in their office until they see you! I hope things get better for you

fast and know that we are here for you!

Disenchanted, upset.....am I crazy?

Hello All,

As some of you know I am 22 weeks pregnant. Early in this pregnancy I had

bleeding and was diagnosed with another blood condition. I have

Hyperhomocystein Anemia...and then they diagnosed me with MTHR -

Antiphospholipid Disorder. Both of these things can contribute to blood clots

during pregnancy and other issues. I have been taking Lovenox injections (low

weight heparin), 4 mg of Folic Acid and a baby aspirin everyday.

Now onto the battle part. My obgyn sent me to consult with a big wig Maternal

Fetal Medicine High Risk Pregnancy Dr. She determined I needed her special care

and she assured me that I would get better care from her than a regular obgyn.

Thanks for letting me vent. If you got to the bottom of this could you let me

know if I am being reasonable and rational? Cause maybe I am having

unreasonable expectations.

chrystal,

remember, you can REFUSE anyone to care for you, but some

practices may have made that included as part of their office policy

or it may have been in the fine print that no one reads when you

signed your initial papers.

The fertility Dr I saw was in the large teaching group and they

didn't have a problem with my refusing residents. Younger residents

and med students all usually gown up and *watch*, but med students

aren't allowed to touch or participate (at our facility anyway).

Crystal,

Let me say this...no one knows your body like you and the best

doctors in the world cannot interpret your body's signals the way

you can. So, you will always be the most in tuned to your body and

able to identify your body's signals before any doctor or nurse

can. With that said, you still need to rely on your physicians to

assist you through your pregnancy and help you interpret your body's

needs. If you don't have a good working relationship with your

doctor, it doesn't matter if they are the best doctor in the world

or not...they won't be able to do a lot for you. It sounds like

your OB/BYN had your best interest at heart when he/she referred you

to this specialist. Is it possible to keep your OB/GYN as your

primary OB and " consult " with the specialist? It would be optimal

it seems to me to take advantage of any special services the

specialist has to offer.

I am an ER nurse and let me say this...lots of doctors use the " go

to the ER " as a cop out! All types of physicians do

this...pediatricians, OB/GYN's, Cardiologists, Neurologist, etc. We

see this all the time, every day. ER doctors are some of the best,

most talented physicians in the world, but when you see them for non-

emergency care it is like putting a band-aid on an injury. You will

be seen and treated by the ER doctor then told by the ER doctor to

follow up with your specialist...OB/GYN in this case. So you end up

with 2 visits instead of 1. Don't get me wrong...don't ever hesitate

to go to the ER when you need to see a physician immediately and

can't get in to see your own. It just frustrates me that so many

physicians' offices don't take the time to try accomodate their

patients instead of just sending them to the ER. Ever wonder why

some ERs have such long waits to get in to see the doctor? This is

part of the reason...seeing lots of patients who don't really need

emergency treatment, but do need medical attention. Plus, no matter

how good the ER doctor is you won't get the same quality care you

deserve, because the ER doctor isn't familiar with your case and

doesn't have access to all your medical records like your doctor

does. I'll get off my soap box now.

I am sorry you are having to deal with this. It is frustrating to

be a patient even in the best of circumstances, but it sounds like

you have really been through a lot. I will keep you in my

prayers!!! Let us know what happens!

Good Luck!

Donna
