Guest guest
idney got her DBB today! For those of you who don't know our story - (I'll try to make it brief). Sidney was born w/ a turned " downward " and " inward " right foot which is also missing her two smaller toes. She went to a doctor for the first 3 months that used below the knee " soft " casts, set the cast at a 90 degree angle and would leave it off for 2-4 weeks in between castings. I think I counted that she had 4 casts that stayed on in the whole 3 months. Anyway, when prescribed ab AFO that didn't even fit - we became very unhappy w/ the progress and treatment. Went to UNC (Chapel Hill, NC) to Dr. for a second opinion since he waslisted as doing the Ponseti Method. Sidney's condition is a little different than " normal " (for lack of better word) clubfoot because of the missing toes. However, 3 casts later (all of which were set in different positions to produce certain results) and her foot is definitely corrected! Hurrah! So, she got her DBB today and is doing fine w/ it so far (knock on wood). She cries bloody murder when we are putting them on though - anyone else have that problem? Nurse & doctor said it was very common. I hope she gets used to us putting them on her, breaks my heart to hear her cry so earnestly. She didn't cry through any of the casts, so this is new to us. Getting the DBB is such a huge milestone in the treatment. I'm so happy for her! Thanks for letting me share!
