endo question

Coby had his first appt with his endo yesterday. She was very nice

and good with Coby but then I'm not sure about the rest. I don't

know if I was expecting the wrong things from her or if she is off a

little bit. I'm more confused then ever. (Surprise, surprise)

Coby had a good weight gain last week but it has been a concern. His

ped isn't familiar enough with rss to determine what he should gain

each week. There isn't a ped in my town that is familiar with rss

and I can't take him to a ped 2 hrs away every week and for simple

weight checks and common colds of childhood. I really thought that

the endo would be able to help. She said that weight gain would be

the responsibility of the ped and she would be concentrating on his

height. She did say that she would expect to see him moving up on

the growth chart in weight and height. Although, I was under the

impression that he would set his own curve and she said no he should

be catching up. She pretty much just dismissed rss and said " but are

you really sure he has rss " . Well she had the reports from the

geneticist that said it was his opinion that it is rss. She said it

is very difficult to determine rss in young children because just by

being small they look rss.

She wants to see him back in 2 months and do chromosomal testing.

She walked in the door with her speech on gh. Basically what I got

out of it was that sense gh has now been ok'd for SGA children that

Coby would qualify so she wasn't worried about weather he was rss or

not. She also said that sense he only had hypo-g issues at birth due

to being early and hasn't shown any more signs of it that she doesn't

suspect that he will ever have a problem with it.

Does this sound normal to the rest of you? What are your thoughts?

I'm at a loss. I don't know who is suppose to be the brains of his

weight gain. I am a take-charge kind of parent but when I don't know

I ask. Now I've asked and no one wants the responsibility. If the

ped doesn't know and it isn't the endo's job then what doc is it that

does it????????
