I think several things would have made the experience better. I did agree to it and did know 2 months before I actually went to NYC. That was the time lapse between being told and going. I think that made it worse b/c I had so much time to develop false hopes and study the shows and get high expectations. Even when people " break " the rules, it is ALL PLANNED. 1- If I had gotten to pick atleast 1 store, I was told I could pick them all, but got to pick NONE...major disapointment. You can't say, hey, I want to go there...even off camara a stylist is with you. 2- If I had gotten to pick the clothes. THere is a behind the scene stylist picking everything for you and making you try on, try on, try on. Even if you know you hate it, you still have to waste time trying it on. If you pick it and they don't like it, you get about 10 seconds to try it on after trying on and filming what they want for HOURS. If they don't like it, you CAN'T buy it...unless it is at an off camara store, in which case you have 15 minutes before closing and you can't really try much on to know if it fits, alot of stuff I bought DOES NOT EVEN FIT. Off camera, it was literally, Grab as much as you can or else go home empty handed. I had to go to H&M off camara b/c thats what was still open. I did raise HELL. I told them I wasn't smiling one more F-ing time for their F-ing show that they could shove up their u know what, I would take my sh*t and go home if i didn't get to go to a store that sells blue jeans and actually BUY atleast 1 pair out of the money. Between getting my hair done and the reveal, i got 45 minutes to go to a 9 story Bloomingdales and spend $600.00. Still grab and go, brands I had never heard of, no clue about sizes and I was LOST in such a big store with so little time and I had to feed Kaitlin. That is why my make-up was filmed the way it was...fast. That is why I smiled at the end...it was part of the bargain for getting blue jeans...they actually would not pay for the jeans until I filmed the rest of the show...I am telling you, IT GOT UGLY. And BTW, $600.00 doesn't go far at Bloomingdales...at all. 3- The days were not so long. I would wake up at like 630 and get to the studio at 700, not get to leave the studio until 8-9 at night, sometimes later. Plus I had Kaitlin to feed on the VERY SHORT breaks. 4- If they actually took what I liked and needed into consideration. FI, I am a nursing mother...did I get a nursing bra...NO. Does that make any sense? 5-If half of shopping day 2 wasn't spent filming a stupid commercial instead of shopping.....complete waste of valuable time. 6-If I didn't have to repeatedly do EVERYTHING. EVERTHING I touched had to be retouched atleast twice to get closeups...my idea, buy more cameras and do it all at once. Even the nodding scenes were taped and edited into the actual scenes..EVERYTHING everyone touches is redone after the fact and edited into it..way too time consuming for me! > About the $5,000, if you dont spend it all, do you get to keep the > card and use the balance? THe card is not real. I never got to touch an actual credit card. The shots of me paying for stuff is fake. THey pay for it. No I couldn't keep the balance. The amounts listed on the website for TLC are not accurate either. I don't know exactly how much I spent in all, I don't believe it was $5000.00, but it could have been. > Did your family get to travel with you? I was concerned about the > breastfeeding issue (if you were able to take Kaitlin due to the fact > you were still nursing.) They took my family because I was breastfeeding. However, i believe Kaitlin suffered from it. I could never feed her on time b/c of filming so she was constantly off camara in another room crying to eat b/c it was past time. When I did feed her I had to miss meals b/c the choice i had was feed her or me. They would actually interrupt me feeding her and tell me " time was up. " They would pace back and forth around me while I was feeding her. I don't know about you, but stress REALLY affects my let-down reflex. I got to the point that I would wip my boobs out anywhere, anytime, don't like it TS, I am not starving her anymore. It was more stress having her there b/c I constantly worried about her intake..mostly she ate rice and juice as a filler I am sad to admit. I would feed her constantly all night trying to make up. :-( > Did you get to see New York while you were there or were you too busy > w/ the show to really enjoy the trip? We went to Little Italy the first night before filming. We could see the Statue of Liberty from our room and We got to stay an extra night because of the Hurricanes so we did go to Times Square on that extra night....only to spend the whole next day stranded at the airport anyways. Mostly I saw NYC from Taxis as we traveled from place to place shopping. > Does the hair styling and makeup come out of the $5K or is that just > part of the show? It is part of the show, but I did not get to keep the make up or anything like that. I loved my hair-do...it looks like crap now. I was so embarrased today b/c people were like, " why don't you do your hair like that? " Duh, he spent hours on it and I don't have 4 hands. > I think thats all for now. After seeing your show, Im considering > doing it myself. I would LOVE for them to throw out my crap and give > me $5K. It sounds ALOT better than it is. I was SO, SO, SO excited, only to have a HUGE reality check when I got there. THe show is not about fun only about looking fun. It is not about what you want or need, only how they want you to look. THe fun is sucked out of shopping.. I would not recommend this experience to anyone. I think Extreme Home Makeover sounds more fun b/c they ship you off on vacation while they remodel your house...no stress in that! They want people to want to be on the show, because that is what drives people to watch it. They make it look fun. They took like 80 hours of footage or so, I think they said 38 -2 hour tapes of my episode. They had so much footage to pick and choose from to get the best parts to sum up with. Really, it is not that great. It is an experience, and it was neat to see myself on tv. I can say, " Hey guess what I did once? " and it sounds really cool, but l cried and cried and cried in dissapointment/stress/frustration like you would never know. Clinton told me that lots of people respond the same way I did. Its like the idea of anything you want, paid for in full by someone else, but it is not like that at all. That's just my opinion on the experience though. I would rather have had $500.00 and gone to Old Navy...any day.
