Hi Jen! First off, congrats on the shorter hours!! Yippee! One

milestone down... :) Enjoy the bit of freedom.

Second, I'm not sure I understand how your son is sitting differently.

But my son , severe atyp bl cf, can do some very freaky things

with his legs. :) Just watching him makes me cringe. He basically

spent his entire first year in casts. Because of the extra weight and

complete awkwardness of them, he is used to doing the splits. He can

go from lying flat on his tummy to swinging his legs each one out to

each side of his hips and around to the front doing the splits to go

from lying on tummy to sitting up, instead of shifting both legs to

one side and then up. Very freaky! :) He can also turn both knees

in towards each other. The first split thing I know is a result of

being in his casts, I have to encourage him to keep his knees together

and kneel in his casts as we're back in them again. this will help

strengthen his hip muscles. I don't know if this is similiar at all,

but I would encourage doing exercises to help strengthen his hips and

stretching when he is not in his shoes. Your pediatrition should know

of some good exercises. We learn all of ours in Physicl therapy. :)

Good luck and enjoy!! I'm so jealous!

a,

jason didn't roll over until about late 6 to early 7 months. He's

alittle slower due to all the castings, but once they get that down,

watch out. The momentum from the weight of those suckers, he rolled

over quick once he got the hang of it. I think personally he's just

lazy...everything in his good sweet time. hehe! Keep encouraging it,

but don't worry too much. Five months is still pretty early. Neither

of mine did it that soon. :)

Heck, my niece just turned 6 months, and still isnt rolling. She doesnt have

cf. It all comes in time. Kai was a bit late with sitting, pushing up and

crawling, but he walked before his 1st birthday - and that was after having

casts on his right foot at 8-9 mo.
