Guest guest
Christian broke his plate also. The plate was wobbling. I had to pay for the shoes and bar so the doctor told me just to bring them back to the shop where we purchased them and the Orthotist would fix them. It only cost us $5.00. Can you find a shop where you would purchase this from? If so, give them a call and tell them your situation. Maybe you can just bring them in and they can fix it for you. Sorry I can't help more. Been so busy with the holidays and keeping up with kids. We noticed today that Isabella's brace is loose from the bolt by the plate. There is no where to tighten it . The shoe is wobbley on the plate. I called shriners St.Louis and they said it is going to break and that she needs a new one. They transfered me to the brace shop and they are so booked up all week. I said what if it breaks before I get in there she is like I don't know. Then she is like well I guess you will have to come in and just wait to be seen but that may take a long time. I am very concerned and upset. I was trying to see if my insurance will pay for a bar close to where I live so I don't have to drive 2 hours to get a new bar but my insurance company is closed. This is the worse week for this to happen. Has anyone else had this happen to the brace and what did you do? The lady said she will squeeze us in Thursday at 1pm but I honestly don't know if the brace will last till then. The brace wasn't like this yesterday. She don't walk on it or anything. I don't know why it is like this. PLEASE HELP!!!! Isabella 2 years old bilateral cf
Guest guest
Can't they handle it over the phone and mail you a new one, since you're an established patient? I'd ask.. That happened to us once, and we got the new brace in the mail from Iowa in a day or two and I attached the shoes myself. > > Hi there, Haven't posted in awhile. I met a family at Aidan's doctor's office & they said they had to duke tape his shoes down once and it worked?! lemikha@...> wrote: Hi there, Haven't posted in awhile. Guest guest
, Did you talk with to see if she had any other ideas? Sorry you guys are going through this. Do you have a cobbler (person who works on shoes) in your town. Once 's shoes came apart and he sewed them back together to last us until we got back to St. Louis. He said he did a lot of work for ortho docs in town. Good luck, I hope it doesn't break before Thursday. Pam and (8-12-01) > > Hi there, Haven't posted in awhile. Guest guest
Also, is the weather/roads okay in your area? We had like 18 " of snow Wednesday. I know that I64 going from In to Ill was closed and people were trapped there in their cars, some for more than 20 hours! I can't imagine how horrible that would be. That's the way we travel to go to St. Louis, luckily, we had our appt. one week prior to the storm! Our roads are still bad here, but should get better tomorrow. Guest guest
Well you know what I'd do? I'd walk in in the morning and sit there till they can take a moment to bring you a new bar which will have a new set of sole plates on it. Jeez, this is not something that would take more than 10 minutes. Quite honestly, I nearly always just walk into the brace shop at Shriners. Because they know I can replace the shoes myself (a screwdriver is all that is needed) I often don't even bring Darbi with me if I'm in the area without her. They know I know what she needs, and they can't really send you away if you're sitting right there and only asking for a few minutes of someone's time to give you a part. Tell them they don't have to mount them, take a screwdriver with you and do it in front of them if you need to hehe... This... they can handle for you a bit sooner than a week it's so simple for them. I've never really looked on the underside of Darbi's sole plates to know if there's any way to fix that bolt being loose but if you take it off the soles of the shoes, maybe you can do something from the underside to affix it to the plate better till it gets fixed. My immediate thought is something like JB Weld which is like an epoxy for metal and you can get it at an auto parts store. Use that and it should hold till you get to Shriners. I'd still walk in though lol. They have new bars in stock, even one the wrong size they could take a new sole plate off and give to you. I can think of no reason why you should have to wait at all. LMK if the JB Weld works, I kinda wonder now... Kori At 08:15 AM 12/27/2004, you wrote: >Hi there, Haven't posted in awhile. Been so busy with the holidays >and keeping up with kids. Guest guest
Hey Pam, we got TONS of snow about 24 inches. The roads were awful until Monday and now they are fine. We couldn't go anywhere for christmas because of the roads so we have to go this weekend to celebrate christmas at my inlaws. Shriners called yesterday and said if we could be there at 7am today they would see us so we had to get up at 4am to go there. They fixed the brace. He said it would of broke completely but I wonder about that. He said he bent the prongs to hold on to the shoe and plate and then put some bonding stuff on there so it will hold it better. I talked to a and Dr.Dobbs and they both said to put duct tape on it until we got to shriners so that is what we did. They weren't going to see me this week because they were all booked up but I kept pushing them. So her brace is fine now. Thank you for all your advice. Talk to you soon Happy New year!! > > > > Hi there, Haven't posted in awhile. Been so busy with the holidays > > and keeping up with kids.
