Guest guest
Dr. Herzenberg has said in the past (quite a few times) that Christian would only need to be in the shoes full time for 2 months because of his age. Well, yesterday (during the tutorial) he indicated that he should continue in the shoes full time until mid January. I was sooo looking forward to his hours being reduced in mid December. I didn't feel comfortable questioning this decision in front of all those doctors. I trust Dr. Herzenberg completely.I was just thinking that he didn't recall at that moment that Christian was 9 months old. Do you guys think I should email him and ask or should I just grin and bear it because the longer in the shoes full time the better. There may have even been a reason for it because when he was holding Christian in the standing position for Dr. Standard to check his heels they said some medical thing that I didn't understand. After that is when he told me to keep them on until mid January. SORRY THIS IS SO LONG.. Marilouise, my husband's name is Mike. It was great to see Marilouise, , and Liana yesterday. Hi, participated in Dr Herzenberg's tutorial today -- his first patient of the session. I was impressed with the number of other doctors who were there. Anyway, after presenting , he told me she could go to " nights only " (12-16 hours per day) with her DBB. YIPPEE! She has had such a good time speedy crawling around since she got her shoes off this morning. I also got to meet , and Liana and saw again We were able to get a picture (without Liana unfortunately) and I will post it on CFPics when I get home -- spending the weekend at my in-laws. and -- what are your DH's names so I can label the picture when I post it! Guest guest
I don't know about your son's case but I know that I questioned this 3 month policy for Kelsey because she is 1 year old and getting ready to start the DBB full time. Both Dr. Ponseti and Dr. Von Stein told me that regardless of her age, she would need to wear the DBB full time for 3 months. I was hoping for less as well as she is so close to walking that I fear it will hinder her progress but I guess I need to do what I need to do for her foot. Guest guest
It might not be a bad idea to email him and ask him what he said that you didn't understand and that you were expecting to be reduced soon and was this thing why he's not getting reduced. I know it's difficult with an older child, I don't envy you at all but there must be a reason for this. And my view on it is that if you have to do the time now, it's a better option than time later or worse yet, surgery at an older age. I don't know... I question more these docs that reduce hours early than those who don't reduce. But that's just me. was that a long post? lol, not long at all. I think my reply is just as long hehe! Guest guest
I think the brace is kind of like a retainer after braces on teeth. No matter the age, it has to be worn more in the beginning to train the feet because that is the most likely time of relapse. thats just an opinion though, no medical basis. Guest guest
I agree, if your notice a typical child with out CF. They have a tendanicy (sp?) to " intoe " naturally usually up until two years of age. I believe the FAB is like a retaner to teeth after the correction is made. Guest guest
babies also all naturally lie their feet when resting with the outsides down, like they're relapsing. Hard to know if it's normal when you've got a bilateral child but if the edges point down when he's relaxed, it very well could be totally normal. Unilateral CF babies do this with both feet, so it's easy to know it's normal. Can you take a pic and send to the CFPics list to let us see what you're talking about?
