Guest guest
Hi, Lichelle. I had PCOS for about 10+ years but was not diagnosed with it until about 2-3 years ago. I was just always told that my weight kept me from ovulating, which in a round-about way was true. I would have about 1 period every year......and towards the end before I had my WLS I didn't have a period for well over a year. Since surgery I had my period every month like clockwork. Never missed a cycle, until I got pregnant of course. My PCOS started when I was about 200 pounds and got progressively worse as I gained more and more weight up to my highest at 316. I was able to have 3 children with the PCOS without any assistance, but they were all fluke conceptions when I would have a spontaneous period. I've been married for 13 years and never really have used birth control. Anyway, after losing down to 186 I got pregnant again (accidentally) with #4. Not everyone is quite that lucky and some have to use Clomid and/or metformin to regulate their hormones and induce fertility. I would wait until your 12 months is up and then see how your body has reacted. I knew basically that my PCOS symptoms were gone because I did not have nearly the hirsutism I had before and my periods were regular. Perhaps this will be the case for you, too. Good luck, Mandi in COncord, NC Postop Distal RNY 09/23/02 Pregnant with #4 EDC 08/04 (start 316/low 186/current pregnant 195 @ 19 weeks/goal 165)

Guest guest
*RAISING HAND HIGH!* Make sure you are using birth control. Fertility skyrockets. The way PCOS was explained to me was that it causes you to gain weight which exacerbates the symptoms making it worse. But when you lose the weight it reverses the symptoms and causes you to become fertile. THat is a VERY simplistic explanation. Definitely use some sort of birth control! I used the pill the entire first year and the FIRST MONTH I went off the pill I got pregnant. This is after doing infertility treatments (IUI, several rounds of clomid, injectibles, etcetera) before surgery. The first cycle I wasn't using anything I got pregnant. SO please please please use something -- condoms if nothing else! mailto: dferguson@...
