Guest guest
Hi Robin, Breastfeeding is best under normal circumstances. I couldn't breastfeed my Noah.. as he was 9 weeks early.. so small .. and my boob was 3x the size of his head. I did pump for 3 weeks.. but dried up. Hopefully next time around I can give it another shot. As for switching between bottle and breast.. formula and breastmilk... I have heard and read that this can be very confusing for new infants. Breastfed babies can eat eat every 1 to 3 hours... where as a formula fed baby can go 2 to 4 hours between feedings. Formula is heavier and not nearly as easy to digest. I do know a few working moms that will breastfeed at bed time and 1st morning feeding.. and bottle feed formula the rest of the time. But then that depends on the baby. Some babies just don't get the latching on right away.. and it is a struggle. Others just latch on like pro's. For the record.. my preemie boy is now 14 months old.. and never a cold. 3 weeks of breastmilk and the rest formula until he was 1 years old. There are a few yahoo groups dedicated to breastfeeding... but watch out.. most of them are FANATICS to the point of berating one who uses formula.. as if you are poisening your baby. I have never breast fed any of my kids but did latch on one time to see if he would do it and it was awesome so I was alwasy wanting to try it. I do not want to do it full time though so here is my questions. 1) can you breast feed only 3-4 times a day, maybe 5-6? 2) can you use formula when you are not or would I have to pump my breasts? 3) will my breasts get engorged if I do not breastfeed alot? I would like to try this a little but I have already talked it over with the docs office and I worry about my thyroid meds in the babys system and having to get the babys blood checked because of this. Thanks all in advance:) Have a Great night tonight. I am staying home away from all the drunks. I cannot tolerate drunks when I am sober, lol....
