Guest guest
Hi, I was just talking to my sister in law about this very thing. She had a condition called HELPS at the end of her pregnancy. She had such bad pain and they kept telling her it was gas. It wasn't... I don't know if this is what you have but sometimes they don't realize the symptoms until it is criticle. I would call your Doctor and ask if it could be something like this. I don't want to scare you, but I think if my sister in law had known what she was having it wouldn't have been so bad. The baby was fine, they just had to do an emergency C-section. Best of Luck, and I hope I didn't scare you, just don't ignore it.
Guest guest
It may sound silly but I get horrible gas pains that make me want to cry. When I lived in California I went to a little Chinese Accupunture/pressurist. He rubbed my lower intestine area in this manner with firm pressure...not too hard not too soft. From the belly button straight to the left side. Down from the left top side to the bottom left side. Then from the left bottom side to the right bottom side...and back up to the top. Like a square or rectangle. He moved inward and kept doing this. I swear it moves the gas out. I also used this technique on my son when he was very gassy as a baby and the farts just came out. Sorry if this sounds silly to anyone but it really worked for me and my son. Chrystal Wife to Jace - together 6 Years! Happy Mommy to - 4 Years Old! New Baby Swenson Due July 28, 2004! Zookeeper for 2 big dogs and 5 cats who let me feed them! Any Help? Hello everyone, I am 3 years Post OP, I had no problems with my surgery and everything went very well. I am currently 6 months pregnant for the 1st time. The biggest problem that I have experienced is backed up gas (at least this is what they think it is) The pain can be so BAD that I could rip the walls off my home, I even had to be rushed to the hospital because I was doubled over in pain throughout my one side of my back and up towards the top of my new belly.. They thought maybe I was having gull or kindey stones, but nothing showed on the ultrasound (but a very healthy baby!!!) This hasn't effected my baby, but the PAIN is unreal and I can stand a pretty good amount of pain. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this sort of pain throughout their pregnancy. This isn't something I have to deal with when I was not pregnant. ___Appreciates any input______ Children are a blessing, and a gift from the Lord. -Psalm 127:
Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestion, anything helps at this point. I had almost thought it was from eating to fast and something was stuck, but the pain can last up to 6 hours, when I went to the hospital the doctor even messured me on a level 7 of pain, the pain hurt so bad it made me throw up ALOT (to where I was sooo sore the next few days) But when they did and ultra sound they seen so much gas backed up!!! I am just trying to see if anyone else had this at pregnancy. Right now I am trying to use beano and gas X almost on a daily basis. Thanks again for your suggestions, I shall try this! Guest guest
Hello , I do appreciate anything that would help me out with this issue. Do you know what " Helps " actually is and what causes or any resources that I can perhaps read on. I am just turning 26 weeks and I had lots of ultra sounds and everything looks great, heart rate on the baby is good, etc... I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks Alot! Guest guest
yes, it sounds exactly like what I was having! I would have the most pain after RJ had been moving around alot. I found that taking gas-x and getting into the hottest bath I could handle would help. Just remember not to stay in very long since the baby gets over heated too. I wonder if this is common for all pregnant women or just wls pregnant women. Anyway, I suffer from this exact same condition from time to time and I can totally relate when you say you could rip the walls off your house! What helps somewhat for me is pepto-bismol (which is ok w/my doc, check with your own doc for his opinion), relaxing in a reclining position (laying down makes it hurt worse for me), dh rubbing my belly where it hurts, and drinking HOT lemon tea. Now, the only thing that makes the pain completely go away is having a bm (easier said than done). Since the gas causes so much pain, I'm afraid to take anything like metamucil for, ahem, regularity, because I hear that can also cause gas and bloating (and heck, that's what I have!) I hope my home remedies work for you--if you stumble upon some miracle cure, please share! Guest guest
I just wanted to thank everyone for all their imput on this matter. It just helps to see that I am not the only one going through this. I take Gas X " daily " (Dr. said it fine) and I also take beano when I eat something that I " think " could potentially give me gas. Pepto, tums, etc. don't seem to help me. I did try the hot shower, and this does help when the episode isn't a BAD one. My OBGYN (although I had and ultra sound over every inch of every organ in my body, and all they seen was ALOT of gas and alot of bile) suggested that I speak to my family doctor about this, in which if I have another episode I will indeed speak to one. My OB also said that it may perhaps be that the baby is pushing up on my organs causing the gas pains also. And BTW they put me on an extra dose of iron(SLOW RELEASE, because it's said to be easier on you) because I an anemic, so therefore I just recently in the last part of the month started taking metamucil or a chewable pill and with me taking the gas X it hasn't given me any extra pain or anything to let you know. I hope my imput helps as much, as you girls did. I wish you all luck and feel free to write, I do enjoy reading the board and I will be hanging around! Thanks Again! Guest guest
Janet, I know that my sister in law has done a lot of research on this. Go to a search site and type in HELPS Syndrome. I know it has something to do with the liver and platelets. When they finally caught onto what was happening to my sister in law her platelets were really low and they weren't sure if she would bleed out during the C-section. That is why I tell you to make sure you check it out. My husband is a Family Doctor who delivers babies I was telling him that I had just gotten off the phone with my sil and then read your post. I told him that I told you to talk to your doctor about the possibility. He said that was good advice. I am sorry I don't know more about it. But PLEASE call your Doctor and ask if this could be what is going on with you. All I know is that my SIL was in a ton of pain! Please keep in touch and let us know what's going on. Guest guest
, I really appreciate this advice, I a sorry to hear this had happened to your sister n law, but I am happy to hear that she is okay. My last episode I had of this, I stayed in the hospital for observation and they did check my blood count etc, and everything was okay, although I will asked this of my OBGYN, my next visit is on the 24th or maybe I can even give them a call, but I would rather speak with her than someone at the office (they like to give you the run around). I wanted to thank everyone else for the links on HELLPS, I did read through it, I didn't have a lot of the signs that the website listed that one would have with HELLPS. But I would rather be safe than anything.!! Thanks Again and look forward to hearing back from you! Janet > Janet, > I know that my sister in law has done a lot of research on this. Guest guest
If I had to give my opinion on your pain I'd say you possibly had an ulcer in your new stomach. That is what happened to me when I was at your point in my pregnancy. I went to the hospital three times in one week, in so much pain I thought I would have to deliver early to find out the cause. They couldn't do MRI's or x-ray's to diagnose so they were kind of flying blind. They prescribed Prevacid and hoped it would work. Boy did it work!! I take prevacid everyday and I have had no pain since. They figure as the baby pushed my new stomach up it caused acid to back-up into the new pouch and cause an ulcer. So ask your doctor for some Prevacid and see if that works. Isanga c-section scheduled 4/5/04 WLS 10/2002 280----
Guest guest
Hi, Saw that you are 6 months pregnant and congratulations. You did mention that you were three years out before getting pregnant. Can I ask what form of contraception you used and what did the dr. say about effective birth control after surgery. Would surely appreciate any information. I am hearing that taking the pill is not the safest because our bodies have changed and may not work the same for contraception as it did before. Thanks. Guest guest
Well, Thanks for the congrats! I was taking Ortho Tri Cyclen, I didn't have any problems taking the pill and this is my first pregnancy. That seemed to agree with me. Although, they say it's easier to get prego right after having the surgery done, right after I had mine (3 years ago, I didn't even feel like sex right away haha I just wanted to recover).
