Guest guest
do yourself a favor. Have the surgury, wait 2 years and have babies. I know you'll be worried about age going that route, but don't be. Life of being tired, and cramped, plus being bigger from pregancy is just plain hard. Imagine being skinny and adding on a few pounds for the baby. The way I looked at it was I lost 140lbs, if I gain 50 with a baby I still won't weigh what I used to weigh! Now imagine life being happy about your body, having energy and having a crying 2 year old running laps around you. Would you be able to keep up with that 2 yr old now? Would you be exhausted? I wouldn't be able to do it at all, I was 310 lbs and could barely walk 2 houses down or take on a flight of stairs. I couldn't lift more than 20 lbs, much less walk with extra weight. Carseats btw, are heavy! so if you are, for example, 310, plus toting a 30lb carrier plus infant, wouldn't you rather be lighter? Good luck with your decision! They say that women with the gastric bypass are often more " fertile " , what they mean to say is that our bodies start to tell us.. hey.. we're healthy again we can have babies now! > > Message: 1 > Date: Fri, 16 Jan 2004 00:07:38 -0000 > > Subject: New member here... > > I have never been pregnant before and I just turned 30. Guest guest
Learn from my experience. At 30, I wanted to have a baby, but at the same time, I was also unsure about having wls. So I got the paperwork from the surgeon and started doing my research. Then I got pregnant, so I figure my dilemma was figured out for me. I was only part right. I feel that God wanted me to get pregnant, in order to better appreciate WLS. If I had it before, I never would have known what it is like to try and buy maternity clothes when you weigh over 300 pounds. I wouldn't have had gestational diabetes. I wouldn't have had difficulty with delivery, being 16 days late, being induced 3 times over 5 days, in agony, and then my son being in NICU for the first week of his life because he aspirated, meaning he was in distress and he swallowed meconium. I might not have had a 10 pound baby (ouch!). Then...you can jump forward to the fact that he walked at 9 months, and RAN at 9 1/2 months...which is not easy to keep up with at 325 pounds. And every time you are picking up your child you are adding that weight to the already huge strain on your body because you are already carrying 2+ people on your back, just from your weight alone. At 16 months, Caleb's mommy had gastric bypass surgery. Because of everything I have already mentioned, and also, because I want to be around when he grows up and gives me grandchildren. Caleb's Daddy also had surgery this past summer, just before Caleb turned 3, because he wants to be there for him, and knows that he might not be otherwise. I am now 33 and trying to have the second child, and looking forward to it being so much easier than the first pregnancy. If I knew then what I know now, I would have pursued WLS before having any babies at all. Not only because it makes for better fertility, better pregnancy, safer delivery, and easier recovery, but more importantly, I feel that I am a better parent as a thin parent. When you are heavy, you don't want to run after the ball your son keeps throwing across the back yard, because you can't breath when you run. You don't want to get on the floor to play blocks, because you aren't sure you can get back up. I won't say I made a mistake, because children are not a mistake, and I don't regret having him. He is healthy, happy, and the love of my life. And how he came into the world taught me a lot. So, I suggest you do WLS first. You really aren't that old to have babies, in my opinion. Besides, the sex is incredible when you are thinner!!!! It will be more fun trying to make the babies!!!!!!! in MA 323/155 5'9 " April 10, 2002 Open RNY Dr. Coe, Baystate Medical Center Mommy to Caleb, 3 yrs old, and wife to Ray for last 7 years...
