Today was my 20 wk appointment, and unfortunately, it wasn't with my

regular doc but with his partner instead. I don't *dislike* his

partner, I just don't like the partner as well and neither of them

are overly knowledgeable about my surgery. However, they are the

only in-network obgyns for me. Anyway . . . my bp was 120/79 (or

something like that). Dr. B said that was a little high and said I

should take a baby aspirin a day. *Is* that a high bp? Pre-wls, I

did have high bp, and back then I would've considered that a fairly

good bp reading??? Also, will a baby aspirin per day hurt my pouch?

If anyone has experience with these issues, I'd appreciate a little

feedback. Right now, I'm leaning towards not taking the aspiring,

monitoring my own bp to see what it does, and consulting with my

regular doc at my next appointment.

Thanks!

I don't know much about the bp. I don't think it is high, but I don't know.

But, I have heard to stay away from the aspirin...any dose of it.

Laurie,

If I were you I would call and leave a message with your regular doc to call you

so you can ask over the phone rather than wait until your next appointment. I

don't think that it is a high BP either but maybe it is high compared to what it

has been in past appointments and that is why the doc thought it was unusual?

the medical end they use baby aspirin for a lot of things -- BP maybe -- it

prevents clots, keeps away heart attacks and one of the latest I've heard is

one doc puts his pregnant patients on it who have had or to prevent

miscarriages.

120/79 isn't considered high blood pressure. It is most dependent on

what your *normal average* is. If you are usually running 90/40 and

then have a 120/79 then they should watch you a little more closely.

To start you on an aspirin with no real reason except for that

doesn't seem right to me. At my hospital if we have someone that

needs *anticoags* (blood thinners) you are given injections (or are

taught to give them to yourself). We don't give anticoagulants for

normal to borderline high blood pressure. We don't suggest anyone

take aspirin while pregnant as it could cause unwanted bleeding from

your placenta (etc).

I would call your regular OB and insist on the rationale for the

aspirin and see if you then feel comfortable in taking it.
