Guest guest
Margaret I must of missed this post but I can tell you from my own experience on potty training my son. We did a week long program ( with his ABA class also ). He basically sat on the potty and whenever he would even trinkle a little we would throw a HUGE party, with special R+ that was only for potty time and stickers and well anything that your child REALLY likes. By the end of 1 week he was pretty much urine trained except for a few occassional accidents. Now the poopy thing has taken MUCH longer, it has been a good 7 months and he finally does it all by himself on the potty. Now we have to tackle the night time potty stuff. Oh well, one thing at a time. Hope I helped a little. Hugs, Terry.B

Guest guest
I'd be interested in re-reading this as well, as we started potty training two days ago. We aren't using the potty party approach, though...just the 15 minutes on, 10 minutes off method. So far he's had two successes but hates sitting there! We try to have lots of fun toys he can only use on the potty, but we're running out of ideas....any suggestions would be most welcome! Thanks, OT - Potty Training > Hi > > Some weeks back someone posted about how to potty train your child. The > only thing I remember is the " weekend party in a bathroom " . Guest guest
* If he is on a little potty where his feet touch the floor try tracing his feet with markers and let him decorate them when he is done. in New York * ! Guest guest
I don't know if your daughter is completely new to potty training or if you're just having difficulty getting her to cooperate. how old is she? Let me share my story.... Keegan was 4.4 years old when I was desperate to finally get him potty trained. He was just being absolutely stubborn about it. He knew the deal, but just wanted to stay in control of the situation. Well, we HAD to do something or he wouldn't have been allowed to start in any preschools. He is PDD, NOS but very high-functioning. So during his Spring Break last year we decided to do the pants off method. Of course, he kept making messes rather than getting to the potty. And when we would take him to the potty he refused to go. One time, he actually held it in for sooooo long, while wearing clothes, and he finally messed all over himeself. I was so mad, impatient, frustrated.... and grossed out, that I decided to throw him in the shower to clean him off. At the moment because of being mad, I decided to go ahead and make it a COLD shower as a punishment for being stubborn. Of course he hated it, but if finally sunk in to him that I meant business! He had very few accidents after that. And if he did, he got another cold shower. He was totally potty trained within one week of when we started. I wouldn't reccomend this method to someone who doesn't even know how to go potty yet. Keegan was fully aware, but just being very STUBBORN. It wasn't abbusive or inhumane....it was just uncomfortable for him to be cold. And it worked. If you have any questions, feel free to post them. Guest guest
They have a chapter, I recall, on the Special Needs individual. This methodology of training uses a doll as an imitator for the practice. Rewards are also used. I thought I would try a anatomically correct baby boy doll model, since I have two ASD sons and a NT son that are not trained. Do you want to know how hard it was to findone of those??!!! > My mistake! Great! I understand that they have also made a version for > Special Needs kids. Does it mention it on the jacket? Not that I think > that is necessary, since it is such an ABA style approach. -Phyllis > -- > > > << We used " Toilet Training in Less than a Day " , > > > ......... > > > > > > > > > >

I would like to try to get one for my son while he is potty training too. (Aidan's mom)
