Guest guest
Sharon, We live in South Africa and have done several trips to New York, business or pleasure, we love it. Our last trip was 4 days spent after 's treatment by Dr Ponseti when he was 3 months old, quite an experience! For NY, in our experience it's convenient but more expensive to take a cab. It's well controlled, they charge you a standard rate from whichever airport you come from, the cost into Manhattan is set, plus tolls and tip for driver. You can organise a drop-off shuttle to most hotels, but we found travelling with a little one that it's easier to do the cab, they are lined up waiting and you just grab one, load all your bags in and go. I'd try the cab first for your first drive into Manhattan, it's really exciting. After that you can decide if you want to arrange a shuttle with the hotel if you prefer. Enjoy NYC ... it's our favourite city to visit! PS: Don't miss the huge discount warehouse down near the Twin tower site, I think it's called Century something, real bargains in women's clothing - all the well-known labels at much less than you'll pay in the stores. and www.clubfoot.co.za Tolls in NY Hi My DH and myself are planning a trip to the US in Feb without our darling boys :-). It's part business (3 days) and 10 days leisure! We are going to San Diego, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York. Woo hoo. I am trying to work out whether I get our travel agent to arrange for transfers to and from the hotels or if we just jump in a taxi. We will be staying at the Waldorf Astoria in NY and their website mentions the taxi fare The Waldorf=Astoria: LaGuardia to The Waldorf=Astoria: $35.00 plus tolls JFK to The Waldorf=Astoria: $45.00 plus tolls Newark to The Waldorf=Astoria: $50.00 plus tolls. Are the tolls expensive. Should I add an extra $10 for tolls, more or less. I am very excited about this trip, can't wait to go shopping. If we have time I might even be able to meet some of you? Guest guest
Hi Sharon, I live in North Jersey and travel to the city alot (not as often as I used to). I think $10 should be enough for your tolls from the airport to the hotel. I know that all entrances (GWB, Lincoln and Holland Tunnels) have a $6 toll to get into the city. I am sure someone else on here will give you more details. Have a great trip! Guest guest
I'm going to NY next weekend. I love Christmas in NY. The Waldorf is positivley fabulous. They should treat you like royaly there. If you have a ton of stuff, the cab is the way to go. It is worth the money. I am not sure how much the tolls are but possibly $15. They increased them recently. Maybe from this site can chime in and give better accuracy. San Diego is awesome! I am from there originally. The weather is beautiful! And Vegas!!! What fun! You picked some great places and you will have a lot of fun. Have a great trip!!!!!! Shook Retail Operations Manager/Baking Instructor Vie de France Yamazaki, Inc. 2070 Chain Bridge Rd.
