Guest guest
, Congrats on getting past the casting stage. Our son was treated by Dr. Ponseti. We used the whole hour together. This was when we gave him tummy time, cuddled with him, and gave him a bath. To break the time up, would have felt like we didn't get much out of being out of the bar. That's just me. I do know it's fine to do it all at once (as all of Dr. Ponseti's patients were able to do it that way) - but you'll have to do what you feel most comfortable with doing - especially when your doc tells you to break it up. As far as stretches go - Dr. Ponseti doesn't have his patients stretch their baby's feet. When I asked him about this (Because I kept reading of people in our group doing stretches) he said that your child's every day normal kicking, eventually pulling up, walking etc. is enough stretching - and they didn't require anything additional. Because of this, I don't know anything about stretching, the time it entails, etc. Hope I've been of some help - I'm sure after comparing the multiple responses you're sure to get, you'll come up with something that will work for you. Guest guest
We used the hour all at once, and did the stretching and working on standing during that time, it was also bath time and grocery time on some days! It works really well to focus that hour on sitting him in your lap and putting both feet flat on ground and kinda lean forward with him. It also helps to stand him up against something and keep him standing flat on feet encouraging him not to lean or stick butt out. We were told by Dr. Ponseti that using the hour all at once was o.k. to do. Hope this helps, > > Hi, > My son just got out of his casts and is using the bar (it's not the > DBB but a new one that Dr. Dobbs made). Guest guest
We did the hour all at once with no stretching and often didn't even do the hour at all because it was more convenient. That hour goes too fast anyway. We'd spend 5-10 min on each side getting shoes on and off lol. We also didn't split up the off time when she was reduced, she's always done the full hours in one stretch with a long stretch off instead of naps. Yes, it was for convenience sake but a lot of people do it that way and it works just as well as nights and naps, at least for us. And I'm pretty sure Dr. Ponseti says that's ok too. Our doc did (but what does that mean? lol!) Guest guest
Just a thought, but maybe your doc only meant for the first few days, to take off the shoes a few times a day to check for redness/blisters/pressure sores? If you did that a few times a day it would certainly add up to the hour off. Then once the baby is adjusted or more used to the shoes or you're sure he's not getting any sores you can switch to the full hour all at once. I would hate to break it up, it takes so long to get the shoes off & on in the first place. I have to take her shoes off at least for a few minutes every day even if I don't have time to do the whole hour, because Ava's feet STINK!!! If it's not bath day she at least gets a foot wash & clean socks! , mommy of: Guinevere, on & Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 23/7 > > > > > > Hi, > > > My son just got out of his casts and is using the bar (it's not the > > > DBB but a new one that Dr. Dobbs made). Guest guest
My doctor has us do stretching also. He has us tickle his feet too. Never asked why, I just do it. I have found that I am too absent minded to keep the shoes off for only 1 hour. My son has very sweaty feet, so we change his socks 2 to 3 times a day and do our stretching and tickling each time we take the shoes off. Hope this helps. Guest guest
That's exactly what Dr. Dobbs told us, the first few days do the hour broken up so you can check for blisters/red marks/sores etc. Then if everything looks good after a few days switch to doing the hour at one time. Unfortunately we ended up with bad sores after the first night in the shoes. Right now we are healing and will start over again on 23/7 with Dr. Dobbs new prototype shoe and articulating bar on Friday. Hope this helps, > > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > My son just got out of his casts and is using the bar (it's > not the > > > > DBB but a new one that Dr. Dobbs made). Guest guest
Tickling the feet makes him (usually) point his foot upwards, stretching the heel area, and just moves the feet around in general to stretch and feel good since they're confined most of the time. s.
