Well folks, I found this board last week when I was miserable over

the fact that I needed to take the glucose tolerance test. I'm

going tomorrow, and dreading every minute of it. I'm just praying

that I'm fearing the worst. I asked my doctor about the 2-hour post

prandial test, and he snapped at me that test wouldn't be accurate.

I'm planning on taking the liquid drop by drop under my tongue, and

as soon as the dry heaving begins, I'm done. My husband is going

along, and I just hope he doesn't knock out my OB. I really hope we

don't have to change OBs, too, after this. I'll just think

positively, say a prayer, and make as much noise as possible while

I'm heaving my guts out. He shares a building with a podiatrist,

and it would please me if all the podiatrist's patients get grossed

out by me heaving.

Otherwise, thanks for all your support on this matter. I'll give a

quick post to let you know how it goes.

,

PLEASE remember that you have the right to refuse ANY test. That is utterly

ridiculous that your OB won't do his homework and find out that the GTT is

useless and even dangerous for post-bypass women. Have you not printed out

the fact sheet from our home page explaining this? I'm sorry, but NO health

professional dictates to ME what will or won't be done to me. Even if it's

to my own harm, I still have the right to refuse and they canNOT force me to

do anything.

Woo hoo! I made it!! Thanks to everybody for your support and well

wishes...

I did the glucose test with no problems. Apparently, the secret is

to take no more than 1/4 teaspoonful of liquid in your mouth at one

time, swill it around for a while, then finally swallow. I believe

the saliva broke down the sugar enough like my stomach acid (which

is no more) and I didn't dump!!

I'm also not diabetic... woo. My physician did offer a good

explanation why he wanted me to do this, I just wish he'd done it

earlier. He also admitted that I would not be able to do the 3 hour

test had I failed this one.

Everybody, keep up with your vitamins, get some exercise, and keep

your babies happy!! Thanks again!!
