Guest guest
Hi my name is Ibarra. I'm 27 and had my WLS on 7/16/03. So i'm a little over 5 months out. I found out Dec. 23rd that I'm pregnant. We were planning on waiting until the doc said it was ok, but, oops! Anyhow, guess my due date will be around Aug. 25th, 2004. This will be my husband and I's first's child. We tried for about 6 months before the surgery with no results, so we are really excited, but somewhat scared. I saw my ob/gyn last week just long enough to have him confirm it, but today I will see him for blood tests, pap smear & hopefully ultrasound... at least that's what he said. I would love to get such an early ultrasound, I think it would make me alot more confident about this whole thing... Anyhow, I've read that alot of new people are coming in right about now, and most of them are asking about some of the things they can expect. But it seems that people are just welcoming them rather than answering their question... And of course, I have the same questions. Could someone please just give us newbies a general answer to some of the following questions? How long should we expect to continue losing weight, and when will we start gaining? How many of you who got pregnant before the end of your first year after WLS had a high- risk OB? How many vitamins are you generally supposed to take a day? How many who've had they're baby had low birth weight babies? And any other miscellaneous things that might be important to those of us who are really in the dark right now. (I might be a little more in the dark cuz' this is my first so I dont even know what to expect regularly!!) Thanks guys for your infor and your welcomes! Guest guest
, Its tough for some of these questions to be answered because like you, alot of us are pregnant with our first, or pregnant with our first child after WLS, so we are all still learning too. As far as the vitamins, we are all over the place where some of us are taking two prenatal, some taking a prenatal with a multivitamin or other supplements, and some just taking the usual one prenatal a day. If you go through some of the previous posts alot of your questions will be answered, at least alot of mine were when I first joined. Also, alot of your questions will be answered by your OB, but you will soon find that when there is 25 OB's there are 25 different opinions as to how something should be handled. If you can get an OB who is familiar with WLS then you will definitely be ahead of the game. Just like with weight loss, everyone's pregnancy is different so it is very hard to give a generalized answer to your questions about weight of the babies and weight loss/gain during and after pregnancy. I hope that you are able to find so answers soon and welcome to the group. Axelrod Another Newbie! Hi my name is Ibarra. I'm 27 and had my WLS on 7/16/03. So i'm a little over 5 months out. Guest guest
Hi , Congrats on your pregnancy! It's always exciting the first time around. On to your quesitons, I can just tell you what I have learned myself. I am pregnant with my 3rd child, but this is the first one after WLS. I had my surgery on May 21, 2003 and I have lost 90lbs and not gained any weight. I got pregnant (which was a big surprize), 3 months out of surgery and I'm due May 14th, 2004. I am being seen by the midwives who delivered my 1st 2 daughters and I am not considered high risk. They consult with a perinatologist to make sure they are covering all their bases and I am having level 2 ultrasounds to check the baby's growth pattern since I have not gained any weight. I'm still not considered high risk. This is what I take: 1 prenatal vitamin, 2 calcium and something called Yellow Dock which is an herbal iron suppliment. I take that because I was having trouble with the regular iron tablets and constipation. This is better absorbtion too. Tastes nasty but I throw it in a little juice and it's fine. I've had no problems except for a hernia which will be surgically corrected after the baby is born. Let me know if I can answer any more questions, I know what it's like to be in the dark with your first.
