Guest guest
Hi Lori- My endo put me on Glucophage to try to get my testosterone levels lower (it worked-they were normal but in relation to estradiol they were high-I do not have insulin resistance) and I was trying to get pregnant. My sister is on it also. Her PCOS is more severe and she is insulin resistant and Glucophage lowered her fasting insulin levels from 34 to 16 so far. There is also a lady here (Terry?) that was successfully treated with acupuncture and she'll probably pop in with more info. Take care, dx & RAI 1987 (at age 24) > A little birdie told me that there are a couple of ladies on here who > have PCOS as well. Guest guest
Hi Lori, I had PCOS years ago. 1975-6 to be exact. Was told by the then-gyno that it was incurable, that they could give me hormones, that I'd probably never have normal periods and more kids. Quite depressing, as my symptoms were quite overt with some hirsutism, lowered voice, thickening waist, no periods at all... Well, I went to the acupuncturist/herbalist--first time for me, then. Now I'm married to one so it's easier. Anyway, 6 months of acupuncture every 5 days and herbs every day, and the gyno (the practice had been sold, so it wasn't the same one) said 'oh, they must have misdiagnosed you. you don't have PCOS, although I do see it in your chart here'. I've since had two more kids, normal periods right up to menopause a year and a half ago. Anyway, that's what worked for me. Good luck, Terry > " lmsinatl@...> > Reply-To: graves_support > Date: Mon, 06 Jan 2003 22:13:06 -0000 > To: graves_support > Subject: PCOS > > A little birdie told me that there are a couple of ladies on here who > have PCOS as well. Guest guest
& Terry, Thanks for your replies. I'm trying to do this a natural way without drugs. I'm hoping a change in my diet will get my hormone levels under control. I guess my case is not severe, at least not yet. Thanks again, Lori > Hi Lori, > > I had PCOS years ago. 1975-6 to be exact. Guest guest
Hi members! What a group...I just love getting the messages daily in my email from the group. My name is , Iv'e been a member here for a while but have just lurked and never posted.I was diagnosed at the age of 21 with PCOS. I am currently 33. I had gastric bypass last March of 2003. My starting weight was 459. Ugggg. But I am currently down to 290.I am so excited. My DH and I just started trying to conceive but like I said I have PCOS. I was on diabetic medication before the surgery but was took off of it the day of surgery and levels have been so great. I've even had my periods without my bc pills every month . WOW for me because before I couldnt. This surgery has made so much of a change. I went through infertility treatments and an ovarian wedge section in 1995 and different fertility meds but never could acheive a pregnancy.Sigh> I am currently doing a PCOS study with the University Of Virginia. Even though I am having my periods I evidently am not ovulating. They want to put me back on Clomid and Glucophage or metformin. If anyone out here in this group could email me with some similar dealings with PCOS and the meds Id love that. Thanks for the group. To all the new Mommies congrats! You may email me at DixieDarlin1989@... or post. Thanks and sorry my post is so long girls.
