I have a pouch like that, mine is a hernia one and they are going to do a

surgery to fix it after the baby. It does not hurt me and they said the

pregnancy

should not bother it. I bet you have a hernia too, it is common. Good LUck

Ok ladies, I'm going to take a shot at explaining what is happening to me and

hope that I make some sort of sense to someone. :)

I am 22 weeks (tomorrow) and definitely showing even through all my hanging skin

and it feels like the baby is up high as that is where I have been feeling her

kick for the last week or so. I have noticed as I get bigger that I could feel

the outline of my pouch more than ever before, almost like its right under my

skin. Well last night my shirt was up exposing my belly and as I was talking

and laughing with my husband I noticed that I could really see my pouch bulging

out every time my stomach muscles contracted. Wondering if I really was seeing

what I thought I was seeing I bared down and " pushed " and my entire pouch bulged

out on my belly like it was a tumor! I mean it bulged out so much that you

could totally see the shape of my pouch, see how big it was and almost grab it.

I am totally freaked out by this. The only reason I can figure that this is

happening is because the baby is sitting high right now and pushing everything

up and out kinda of, therefore putting my pouch closer to the surface than it

normally sits. Now, I don't feel like anything is out of sorts nor do I feel

any major pains except for a stomach ache that has come and gone for the last

week, feeling a bit like a acidy stomach, and neither eating or taking antacids

have helped, I just have to wait it out. I have an appointment with my OB on

Monday and I will show him, but I am his first and only WLS patient so I know he

won't have any answers for me so that is why I'm turning to you guys to see if

anyone else here has experienced anything even close to this. This being my

first pregnancy I have nothing to compare it too and I'm thinking that this may

be something unique to women like us, pregnant after WLS. So ladies, check out

your tummies and pouches and see if you understand what I'm talking about. :)

I hope someone can help calm my nerves about this.

Are you sure this is your pouch and not a hernia? If it was your pouch would

you see staples? I know when I had my son I saw his foot and his hand come

right out of my stomach. I felt like I was in the movie alien. I would call

your WLS surgeons office and just ask to alleviate your mind....

You need peace of mind not stress. The baby feels your stress.

Robin,

How did you find out you had a hernia when it didn't hurt? How do they

determine a hernia, ultrasound, what? Is there anything you have to do to make

sure that nothing gets screwed up before you get it fixed? Since I don't live

in the same state where I had my surgery I don't have a surgeon I'm familiar

with to consult with anymore. The only thing that gets me a bit concerned is

when I go to deliver this baby that something will burst when I really have to

bear down to push this baby out. I'm going to talk about this when I see my OB

and see if he thinks we need to look into this further so all our bases are

covered before this baby is due. Thanks for the reassurance. :)

I don't think this " bulge " is your pouch at all, but a hernia. I

have one and it's right under my breast bone. Basically your

abdominal wall has a break and your intestine is bulging out. If

you have pain, get seen quickly, but if no pain, I wouldn't worry

too much. Ask your OB at your next visit what he thinks. I look 6

months preggo already because of it. If you can push it out and in,

it's probably a hernia.

Hope this helps~

Chrystal,

I had my surgery in Arizona and we have since moved to Minnesota (my husband is

active duty Army) so I don't know of a surgeon here, we have only been here

since the middle of May. I'm going to mention this to my OB when I see him on

Monday and get him to consult with a surgeon because I'm pretty sure its my

pouch. I doubt that I would feel any sort of staple line since I'm 2.5 years

out because the muscle of the pouch grows over the staples from what I

understand. Maybe I will give my OB's office a heads up tomorrow that this is

happening and let them know they need to get a weight loss surgery surgeon lined

up to check me out. In case it is a hernia I'm going to take it easy and not do

anymore snow shoveling and lifting.

Believe it or not, I had so many hernias I wasn't even aware of. When I had my

first round of plastics, my PS found 5 of them, one being as big as a

Hi ,

Did you notice the bump/pouch after shovelling or some heavy lifting? My hernia

feels like an egg and pops in and out. I was going to have it fixed when I have

my tummy tuck.

Even if your OB doesn't recommend you see a WLS surgeon you may want to find one

in your neighborhood. I know my surgeon wants to see me every 6 months for the

first 3 years.

But you know what they say about Dr. 's they all have a different opinion.

Be safe and take care of yourself ASAP.

Jackie,

Thanks so much for the info. Thankfully I don't have any pain and I am

definitely going to talk to my OB when I see him on Monday. I'm also going to

call them tomorrow to give them a heads up to start looking for a surgeon who

does WLS to start consulting with us as my OB doesn't know anything about WLS.

I'm going to take it easy and no more shoveling snow until I find out whether

this is a hernia or not. I really appreciate everyone here giving me some

insight as to what is going on here and helping calm my nerves, it has helped

alot. :)

OY! you and everyone else is saying its a hernia so I guess thats

probably what it is. I haven't a clue as I have never had experience in this

area. It could be that I have always had it and the baby growing has just made

it more pronounced. I will talk to the OB on Monday and let everyone know what

he says. You guys are all such a comfort as its much better knowing whats going

on then being in the dark and worrying. Thanks for the info ! :)

Chrystal,

I didn't notice anything like this till I started showing with the pregnancy.

When I first noticed anything it was more like I could feel my muscles

tightening or it getting hard when I would talk or laugh or anything that would

tighten your stomach muscles. I think the only reason I paid attention to it is

because it was something different than the way I looked normally so I

attributed it to the pregnancy. Then last night when I could really make it

bulge out thats when I kinda freaked. I have a physical therapy appointment

tomorrow and I'm thinking that I may call her and cancel as I think doing the

exercising may do more harm than good, at least till I talk to my doc. I'm

going to have to make some calls in the morning. Thanks everyone for all the

helpful info! It has really helped me lay out a plan to get this figured out

ASAP.
