Guest guest
i just want to clarify my first e-mail. i found out that they don't make it in liquid anymore, but they do have it in tablets. i guess i just have to dissolve the tablets because there's no way my son can swallow it. sorry if i alarmed anyone. Periactin - manufacturers stopped making it hi everyone. i just got back from the pharmacist to pick up my son's prescription (cyproheptadine). i was told that all manufacturers stopped making this drug. they gave me their last supply of it. help! does anyone know what other alternative medication can my son take for an appetite stimulant. i'm afraid that if i stop giving his this drug, he will definitely stop eating. thanks in advance for your response. Guest guest
I don't know where you got this information. I just picked up my liquid cyproheptadine. Are you sure that your manufacturer checked for the genetic brand of cyproheptadine? The problem with the tablets is that you have to break them into smaller doses (the tablet is 4mg and my 7 year old still only needed half of a tablet twice a day). Also, really needed 1/2 plus about 1/8 more. But you can't break the tablet this way, so she wasn't getting the proper dosage amount with tablets. Please recheck with your pharmacist that they have asked for genetic cyproheptadine. > i just want to clarify my first e-mail. i found out that they don't make it in liquid anymore, but they do have it in tablets. i guess i just have to dissolve the tablets because there's no way my son can swallow it. sorry if i alarmed anyone. > Periactin - manufacturers stopped making it > > > hi everyone. i just got back from the pharmacist to pick up my son's prescription (cyproheptadine). i was told that all manufacturers stopped making this drug. they gave me their last supply of it. > > help! does anyone know what other alternative medication can my son take for an appetite stimulant. i'm afraid that if i stop giving his this drug, he will definitely stop eating. > > thanks in advance for your response. > > > >

Guest guest
--You might want to try calling around to different pharmacies. I had to call three different ones to find one that had the liquid form. It was Walgreen's. Guest guest
I did some checking on line and couldn't find much information. I stumbled across a site that said the manufacturer was no longer making the pill form of Periactin, but it would be available as a generic. SOunded like the only form left was generic, but even the drug company's website didn't have any info. Guest guest
Ester, You do not have to dissolve tablets. A real pharmacist will be able to turn the tablets back into a liquid for you (it's called reconstituting the medication). We have to do that with the prilosec for . We found a pharmacist in NY that will do it and deliver the medication to us (the pharmacist's near our house won't do it) by UPS. If you can't find someone, let me know and I will send you the information. Guest guest
I just ran into the same problem. My pharmacist told me there were like 15 bottles left that he could access. I told him to stock up. We first tried the pill when we began using periactin, mainly because I didn't know better. I was slicing and dicing the pills into quarters and crumbs. Not exact at all. I was happy to switch to liquid. My pharmacist told me he would reconstitute the pills in a cherry flavored liquid once it is no longer available from the manufacturer.
