Guest guest
We've not encountered this problem and we are on our second pair of shoes. Perhaps a quick call to might help clear up any issues and provide some hints on how to make it work better. Chris shoe question Hello, Those of you using the shoes, I have a question. You know the tongue that wraps over the top of the foot - then the middle and upper straps fasten over that tongue.... OK, here is what I am getting now days: The tongue is slipping out from under the upper-most strap no matter how tight I buckle them. Doesn't seem to be causing any irritation to his feet but when it slips out naturally the upper strap is fitting looser afterwards. I'm not sure if this is making the whole shoe looser or just that portion above the ankle. Think this is something to take seriously or just one of them things I can just say " Oh well " about? On a sunny note, Everett is learning how to stand up independently! He even stood a few short moments in his DBB the other morning no-hands! thanks. s. Guest guest
Thanks. This is our 2nd pair too. I'll take a harder look at the straps, maybe I need to punch more holes or something as the leather stretches. s. shoe question Hello, Those of you using the shoes, I have a question. Guest guest
We 'drilled' a few holes on the top straps because they didn't go tight enough. We also cut a 'v' below each of the tongues in the buckles so it is much easier to deal with the buckles. did this with our first pair so we knew to do it with these when they didn't cooperate as well. Last night I drilled (dremel) a hole between two on the middle strap because there weren't enough to choose from. Our first pair had holes much closer together so again we just did it ourselves. shoe question Hello, Those of you using the shoes, I have a question. Guest guest
And I have a question for you - how long are you in the shoes at the moment? Do you find that as you are out of the shoes the water or whatever goes back in the feet and they 'swell' a bit and the overhang at the ankle evens out a bit more or is that just my daughter? Guest guest
I am trying to understand the V you talk about here. You say you cut those in the tongues, do you mean in the straps that go through the buckles? One thing I've done to make buckling easier is I dipped about 3/4 inch at the tip of each strap in varnish to harden them. Makes poking them through the buckle easier. Someone mentioned their baby had chewed the straps till they were stiff and I remembered Everett did that as an infant but he doesn't anymore so i just dipped them on this new pair. s. shoe question Hello, Those of you using the shoes, I have a question. Guest guest
Now this is my opinion but, when my dh puts 's shoes on he has a tendancy to pull the tongue down over the top of his foot so it doesn't reach the top strap.. It never bothers .. just me..LOL.. So later i'll take them off and put them back on right but that's usually at my lunch hour so he's been in them that way for about 4 hours.. I don't think it should really matter as long as the foot isn't slipping.. hth -------------- Original message -------------- Hello, Those of you using the shoes, I have a question. Guest guest
LOL Varnish! that's a thought! But so far this new leather is stiffer and we haven't had any problems. Yet. Knock on wood. The V - okay. In a buckle there's the square and the 'tongue' so to speak that goes through the holes on the strap. The spot where the tongue comes up through the leather can be limiting as far as moving the tongue out of the way when taking them off or putting them on for that matter so initially cut a very narrow V out of the leather from the hole down so the tongue could swing back and forth more easily. With this new pair he didn't do that but after looking at the differences, I just did it myself. What an easy way to make buckling easier! I only cut down about 1/4 an inch or so. I'll take a pic and post on the Pic list if you need me to. Chris shoe question Hello, Those of you using the shoes, I have a question. Guest guest
Hi. Kaitlin wears the s and has been since July 04. We don't put the tonge under the top strap. only under the middle strap. It seemed to us that was how it was supposed to be. It kinda pokes out between the straps but Kaitlin's foot doesn't slip or anything. We had to drill extra holes in the straps too. Also Kaitlin's calves are growing out around the shoes, kinda like after a cast was removed you could still see where it was. I am figuring this will level out eventually. She never has red marks. BTW, the varnish was a great idea, I might have to try it on the next pair. It was me that mentioned Kaitlin chewing on the straps when we were talking about the buckle types! ;-) HTH
Guest guest
Sometimes I tighten Ethan's so tight I am afraid that it will leave a mark and the tongue is still slipping out on his shoes the way that you mention. I always thought it was because he moves around so much. Please let me know if you find out otherwise! Guest guest
Sorry I had to run off today but to answer your questions - Everett is wearing them 14 hours a day. On a few occasions only 12 but that's our range right now and I aim for the entire 14. I haven't noticed any " swelling " but he's a small baby - not nearly as pudgy as I think a baby ought to be, haha. Big brother was HUGE by comparrison. At 13 months old he (Everett) only weighs 19 pounds. s. And I have a question for you - how long are you in the shoes at the moment? Guest guest
OK thanks, I can understand your description now. Stiffer leather, really? Ours are a real soft, flexible suede and when I'd try to push the end of the strap though the buckle it would just wad up. Stiffening it allows enough to push straight through that I can grip it. That person who wrote the group wanting to develop a new DBB system recently - one of my suggestions to her was to make the straps out of a nylon-type material like dog collars are made from. The material wouldn't stretch/break like leather and it would eleminate the need for holes at all - you could push the post of the buckle (tongue) through at any point for a more customized fit. The leather on Everett's middle straps is so worn thin now I fear it'll break soon so I don't dare add more holes. s. shoe question Hello, Those of you using the shoes, I have a question. Guest guest
I'm leaning towards believing it's a rather non-issue. I tried tightening his to the next hole and did leave angry read marks across the tops of his feet, so i backed back down. Between the two - a slipping tongue or a bad red mark, I'll take the slip. I never had this in the previous pair but this pair is designed slightly different so it's probably just a slight design flaw more than a flaw in the actual ability of the shoe to do it's job. s. Guest guest
Well with cf we know each of our kids feet are built different. On ours the tongue seems to wrap around most comfortably up higher so it's under both straps, but like I said a moment ago I really doubt it is hindering any progress. Yes, I was glad when you mentioned her chewing them stiff cuz I had forgotten about Evy doing that previously (he'd outgrown that by the 2nd pair). The varnish dip has worked great as a spittle substitute s. Kaitlin wears the s and has been since July 04. We don't put the tonge under the top strap. only under the middle strap. Guest guest
Hi ee. We have been using the s for about 3 weeks. I had a hard time trying to figure out what you were describing. For us, the middle tongue moves slightly but doesn't come completely out. However, it does get bunched up sometimes and I am worried that it may get really uncomfortable for her. I wonder if the problem you are having happens when they are broken in more. Ours are still relatively new. Sorry this isn't much help. Congrats to Everett standing!!
