I went for my 12 week check up yesterday and my doc asked if I had

thought about having the Amnio. I told him that I wasnt planning on

having it done unless any of the other blood tests came up " unusual "

He suggested I have a " First Look Ultrasound " to rule out Down

Syndrome. Has anyone heard of this? Apparently it consisits of 2

blood tests and an ultrasound where they will measure the babies neck

circumferance. This is supposed to be about 90% accurate in

diagnosis. You are supposed to have it done right at week 12, so I

need it in the next few days. I guess this technique is not very

common or it is new, because I have to go to a special place to get

it done and he said his nurses were still in training for this test.

Any info is appreciated, Thanks!

Lori-

My first pregnancy was diagnosed with Down's Syndrome. My AFP came

back with having a possibility, so they did an ultrasound to measure

the neck folds and look at the heart and everything. The Dr that did

the ultrasound said everything looked perfect and he would be

surprised if she had Down's. We elected to have the amnio, but were

not too concerned. The amnio results came back positive. The point

of this, is that even with the tests and the ultrasound, there could

be a posibility that there could still be a problem.

Good Luck and do remember, that it is a very, VERY small chance (less

than 1%) that your baby will have Down's. :-)

My thoughts are with you!

I just read about this in glamour magazine I think. Either that or family

circle. I read both of them today on my lunch break and one of them

mentioned this test and how accurate it actually is.
