Hi Allyn,

Lord knows I am no expert, I have only been on the board for about 4

months or so, so am new at this but I think you may get advise from

some of the more experienced mommies that you may want to take your

little girl in to get her feet looked at. The top of the feet curving

in could be a sign of relapse. Hopefully not but better to get it

checked sooner than later I would think.

Isn't this what they refer to as the foot being Kidney Shaped? I don't think

it's supposed to be shaped that way.

Hey y'all,

I havent been real active lately but i had a concern. My daughter

(dd) has finally started walking, she has been walking for about 2+

months. I have been watching her feet lately and they look strange

to me. I will try to explain what i see when se walks. if she is

standing i front of me with her back turned to me, looking straight

ahead at the way her leg and her big toe line up, her big toe kinda

curves around. if you look at a normal persons foot there big toe

shouldnt really be seen from the back, it should line up with the

leg. So instead of her foot line from ankle to toe being straight,

her foot kinda curves. /

That looks like forefoot adduction (metatarsus adductuts) which can be totally

harmless or can signal the start of a relapse. It is my understanding that it

is pretty common in clubfoot. It never hurts to have the feet checked if you

notice some change. If it is harmless then you have peace of mind, and if it

isnt then you have caught it early.

Does anyone know if there are pics of this in the files? I would just

like to see what it looks like. When you have metatarsal adductus do

you tend to say " roll on the lateral side of the foot " or would that

be something different? Thanks

I wish I had photos of my dd's feet ... I do have a few that show my son's tho.

If you are subbed to CFPics I can send them thru there.

And no, metatarsal adduction would not cause walking on the lateral side of the

foot by itself. MA just causes the bones of the forefoot to be out of

allignment with the hindfoot. The bones remain on the same plane.

Now, there is a muscle imballance, probably related to MA, that can cause the

rolling. It is when the muscles of the inside of the ankle and those of the

outside dont ballance eachother well and cause the ankle to be generally

unstable.

Also, the first thing that should be checked for if the foot is rolling is

relapse. It doesnt necessarily mean a relapse, but it can. (My son had/has

both MA and this muscle imballance, but no relapse last time Dr Mosca)

I have some pictures of Jordan's feet and she has metatarsal

adductus. I wouldn't even know how to put them up, but I could send

them to you if you would like a comparison.

I am sorry, I also should have said that judging by the pictures of

Jordan's feet, both Dr. Ponseti and Dr. Frick thought that she

should go back in casts because they thought by the pictures that it

was a relapse. Not until Dr. Frick examined her feet did he decide

that she still has all of the mobility in her feet. The way

metatarsal abductus looks is very simular to the way a club foot

looks when it is beginning to relaspe. My suggestion would be to

have someone look at her foot. Dr. Frick said that a relapse would

be indicated by the metatarsal abductus, the child walking on the

outside of the feet and if the heel is no longer touching the ground

when the child walks. He also said that he wanted to monitor

Jordan's feet to be sure that she is not having a relapse. But, I

do have the pictures of her feet if you would like to compare.

Hi Angel,

Thanks for the info. I can view the photos in CFpics but I don't get

them through my email. I typically just view online. Maybe there is

something I'm missing???

yahoo doesnt save photos online anymore, so if you want to see the pics that

people send in the messages you have to receive e-mails. CFPics doesnt have

alot of message traffic, so it doesnt fill up your box or anything.

Angel,

o.K. I edited my membership. So if you could send them to me. I for

some reason was thinking that my membership to this group also

controlled the cfpics as well. So I was missing something! A few

brain cells perhaps. LOL
