Dear and ,

What area of the country are you traveling from? I went to Iowa City from

Oklahoma so the temperatures were colder than we were accustomed to. People

were swimming at a lake and invited us - we froze our butts off!

As far as an extended stay in Iowa City I ought to make a permanent post about

that cuz I write about it a lot here, haha - it's WONDERFUL. IC is a university

town with all the trimmings, tons of really nice and interesting people, places,

events. There is a transportation system called the CamBus (campus bus) that

is FREE. Also city busses that charge a small fee but Cambus takes you about

anywhere you need to go. There is a bus stop across the street from the

Mc House. If you stay at RMD then use the bus for your dr. appointments,

much easier than arranging a shuttle with the staff or driving yourself.

Downtown IC is really cool. There is a " street mall " , closed to traffic where

you can walk and shop, sit at benches; there's a playground there, often there

are street peddlers out playing music; there's a water fountain kids can play in

there too. There's an indoor mall acros one street from there with a movie

theatre; then there is the Museum of Natural History there by the street mall

that's really nice to visit also. Oh, and there is an art museum. There is a

super huge mall at Coraville (town that runs next to IC) with a bus service to

that too- there is a children's museum there, a carosel to ride, lots of fun and

shops.

On Tuesday evenings at the RMD there is a volunteer named Jim Gulland who is a

total Prince; I've known him for years and he can help you find things you need,

places to go, bus schedules - tell him I gave a personal recommendation :) He's

become sort of like my son's God-Uncle over our years of going back and forth to

IC.

Even if you stay at a motel you can take advantage of the bus systems and all IC

has to offer, then of course there is Dr. Ponseti and his staff who you will

find are truely sent from God.

Best of luck! Let us know how we can help you, OK? I know it's scarey. Four

years ago I boarded a plane with my little son and flew there alone to stay for

three weeks! They'll make you feel right at home though, don't worry.

----- Original Message ----- Hello everyone. Recently i posted that my daughter

's

relapse was confirmed by dr. ponseti and although unsure of the

exact date we will go see him it will be at the end of this month.

I was wondering if any can offer advice as to what you all packed. I

know I will need to get socks big enough to fit over her casts

because she will need 2-3 casts. and of course pants to fit over

them. I thought leggings would work ok since they stretch. i was

unsure of the weather over there. If i need to pack plenty of warm

clothes.

Im not exactly sure if I will travel alone or with my family so to

those of you who went alone what did you do with your time?

Dr.Ponseti told me to expect to be there anywhere from 7-10 days and

frankly it is pretty scary since not only have i never been away

from my family but also because i dont know any one over there.

I just hope for the best and the main objective is to get 's

feet corrected.

Thank You for your advice!

and
