Guest guest
Just to weigh in ........(pun intended!!!) I did not have any tests (besides regular ultrasounds). The doctor(s) had no issues (even though I found out a year ago that one of Adam's early ultrasounds showed his head much bigger than his body).........but no one asked me to get any testing done. Perhaps because I had had one uncomplicated pregnancy before??? Debby AFP test > Hi , > I, like Patti, did not have the APF test done. Guest guest
Debby, In the states it is pretty common for pregnant women to be offered the chance for an AFP test (in fact everyone I know was asked whether or not they wanted one during their pregnancy). Many woman have the test, but many decide not to. There is a pretty high false positive rate for the test to come back for Down's Syndrome. To verify this, than the mother would have to go for an amnio to rule Down's in or out. I wonder if it is just not as popular in Canada? My sister lives in Waterloo, I wonder if she was asked whether she wanted an AFP test or not? I'll have to ask. Guest guest
Alison If you get the chance, ask your sister. My doctor for both my pregnancies was a GP that also delivered. In fact she delivered my sister 28 odd years before my first child. She also delivered Adam. She was schooled in England. But very old fashion. Just wondering if it is common here....or not. I've never heard of anyone having it unless they were over 35 or there was some other anticipated problem. In fact my doctor gave me more ultrasounds than is standard. She was very thorough that way. Hummmm that's interesting. See what your sister says. The only other thing I can think of is that our health coverage doesn't pay for it, so unless it is a problem pregnancy, the doctors don't offer it to us. Or, I just thought of another reason, maybe it's offered now, within say the last 5 years, but wasn't 10 years ago. Any parents out there with kids 10 years of age or older and they had the test as part of a standard regime? Debby AFP test > > > > > > > Hi , > > > I, like Patti, did not have the APF test done. Guest guest
Thanks! Me either! You will hear me from the roof tops!!! Screaming the sexes or crying because they were not cooperating! Only good thing is that because of twins I am having an U/S every 4 weeks or so. Tricia
Guest guest
Tricia, I'm so glad that you got good test results! Isn't it such a relief when you hear this good news? Now I can't wait till Monday to see if you have news about whether you have boys, girls, or one of each! LOL! Axelrod AFP Test Well, I just called my Dr's office and my CBC test came back normal and my AFP test came back negative for Neural and Downs and something else. But the nurse said that a test for something could not be done because of twins. She said the name and I can not remember but it started with a T. So I am taking it that everything is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I just have to make it to Monday and pray that the babies are cooperating and will let us see what sex they are!!!! Just had to share, came back abnormal for the neural they thought she might have had Spina Bifida so I was really sure that this one would come back the same! does not have Spina Bifida but I went and had the Amnio and all with her. I was not going to have it with these ones. But hubby thought we should have the test. Now I am glad that we did! Tricia
