Guest guest
Well if you read my post this weekend i was worried about my daughter's feet relapsing so yesterday i got to send dr.ponseti pictures of her feet. well, my fear was true. her feet are indeed relapsing and dr. ponseti told me that her feet are also atypical something i had never been told. also atypical feet do not resond very good to the mitchell shoes and therfore that is why she is slipping out so much of her shoes. all this being said i am so nervous as to what to expect. i was told she needed 2-3 more casts and maybe another cord lenghting. i would love to see him and have him treat her but we are in texas and he does not know anyone close to texas to treat her. he offered to treat her thanksgiving week but i have a son in school, and my husband is a truckdriver so i feel so frustrated. one more thing(as if things are not bad enough) she would need to change from mitchell shoes to markell shoes but i dont know how much they cost or where i can get them? also in the meanwhile does she still need to wear the dbb's? thanks for all of your support and answers. i feel like a long journey is about to begin. michelle and samantha bl cf 12/16/
Guest guest
, There are volunteer pilot organizations who will fly you to Iowa City for treatment (for free). There are lots of families here who have used Angel Flights to get to a Ponseti doctor. Also, Dr. Dobbs works at the St. Louis Shriners, so if that is more manageable for you compared to getting to Iowa City, he's definitely able to treat the difficult " a-typical " feet as well. Since your daughter is almost 1 year old and has a-typical feet, there are only a handful of doctors who are experienced enough to work with her; Dr. Dobbs in St. Louis and Iowa City are probably your closest choices. Do you have any close friends who could watch your son while you travel for treatment? You could potentially also meet with your son's teacher and arrange to bring his lessons with you while you're gone so that he doesn't miss too much. If you use Angel Flights, you could travel back and forth for appointments and not necessarily have to stay for the duration of the treatment. I hope this gives you some ideas....... Good luck- & (3-16-00) left clubfoot
Guest guest
thank you for correcting me! since i was not sure what shoes she is in i made a mistake. can you tell me what price range i am looking at? if they work i really dont care the price. hopefully she will like these more than the markell shoes. like i said she never did or could adjust to them. thanks so much! michelle and samantha bl cf 12/16/03 -- In nosurgery4clubfoot , " " wrote: > , > Are you sure he said that they don't respond to mitchell shoes??? I think it's the markell ones. Our daughter has very atypical feet and the mitchell shoes have been a godsend. Call the shriners or other charitable groups in town to see if they will pay for gas or some such. Guest guest
i have heard of these angel flights but im not real sure how it works or what i need to do to book one. i could always leave my son with my parents but i hate being away from him. when you say that " there are only a handful of doctors that can treat her " why is that? i mean i would love to see dr.ponseti. that is one thing i wanted to do since i joined this group but there are always things that get in the way especially the distance. that is why i wanted to see Dr.ponseti during the holiday because at least that way he would not much so much school. thanks for your ideas i will certainly look into them. i just need to get with my husband and see what we will do. but i will keep everyone posted. thank you michelle and samantha bl cf 12/16/03 > > , > There are volunteer pilot organizations who will fly you to Iowa City > for treatment (for free). Guest guest
Not sure what grade your other child is in but you can arrange to take his/her school work with you to do in Iowa if you go there. I did that when I had to be there three weeks. Look up Angel Flights on the web and you'll get directed to the office nearest to you. s. i have heard of these angel flights but im not real sure how it works or what i need to do to book one. i could always leave my son with my parents but i hate being away from him. when you say that " there are only a handful of doctors that can treat her " why is that? i mean i would love to see dr.ponseti. that is one thing i wanted to do since i joined this group but there are always things that get in the way especially the distance. that is why i wanted to see Dr.ponseti during the holiday because at least that way he would not much so much school. thanks for your ideas i will certainly look into them. i just need to get with my husband and see what we will do. but i will keep everyone posted. thank you michelle and samantha bl cf 12/16/03 > > , > There are volunteer pilot organizations who will fly you to Iowa City > for treatment (for free). Guest guest
, We were in the same position as you, Ava was only 3 1/2 months old. I would certainly encourage you to go see Dr. Ponseti because your daughter will be 1 years old soon. The RMH is great! Time does fly when your there. Dr. Ponseti changes his casts every 5-7 days. The difference we saw after 1 casting was amazing. Best thing we ever did. Guest guest
Thanks for letting me know. Ive contacted the RMH because i was unsure if they were open for thanksgiving and they said yes. So i am just waiting for my husband to get home(he is a trucker) so we can discuss when to go and how to get there. " martin " posted some links of flights that i need to look into and hopefully we can make it to Iowa! Thanks so much! and BL CF 12/16/03 > > > > Well if you read my post this weekend i was worried about my > > daughter's feet relapsing so yesterday i got to send dr.ponseti > > pictures of her feet. well, my fear was true. her feet are indeed > > relapsing and dr. ponseti told me that her feet are also atypical > > something i had never been told. also atypical feet do not resond > > very good to the mitchell shoes and therfore that is why she is > > slipping out so much of her shoes. > > all this being said i am so nervous as to what to expect. i was > told > > she needed 2-3 more casts and maybe another cord lenghting. i would > > love to see him and have him treat her but we are in texas and he > > does not know anyone close to texas to treat her. he offered to > > treat her thanksgiving week but i have a son in school, and my > > husband is a truckdriver so i feel so frustrated. > > one more thing(as if things are not bad enough) she would need to > > change from mitchell shoes to markell shoes but i dont know how > much > > they cost or where i can get them? also in the meanwhile does she > > still need to wear the dbb's? > > thanks for all of your support and answers. > > i feel like a long journey is about to begin. > > michelle and samantha > > bl cf 12/16/
