Guest guest
Oh, just one more question. What are your opinions about registering yourself for a baby shower? Do you think it is a good idea or do you think that it is rude? Just looking for opinions...... thanks, Kristi My husbands co-workers thru him a baby shower (I am the one doing the work, pg with 2nd baby and NEVER gotten a shower, go figure. LOL), and they requested that we go to walmart and register so they knew what we wanted/needed since I had saved everything of s until he was 4 yrs old. With all the newborn clothes that I had, plus what we were given, I don't think RJ will ever have to wear something more than once before he would grow out of it. I really thought we needed t-shirts, until I started washing and putting stuff into the dresser, and found about 30(!!) of them. If anyone else has been asking what we want/need, I have been saying diapers/wipes, any baby can ALWAYS use those! Niki
Guest guest
Hi Kristi, I am way late on responding to this (was away for the holidays) but wanted to share my experience. I am 19 weeks pregnant and not showing AT ALL! I am still in my pre-pregnancy jeans with almost no notice of tightness even around the waist. I haven't gained any weight, either. BUT, my baby seems to be doing just fine. I can " feel " my grapefruit sized uterus when I am " flat on my back " . I am set to have another ultrasound on the 14th and will hopefully see for myself that the baby is fine. It's very difficult to believe I'm pregnant when I've started my 5th month and show no outwardly noticeable signs of it (other than feeling yukky and tired and grouchy!). I guess this is all pretty normal. I lost a lot of weight after surgery and did have a tummy tuck, so maybe that is helping to keep the baby " reined in " so to speak. My doctor tells me that every indication shows that the baby is growing at just the right rate, and that I shouldn't worry. So I'm trying not to. I also haven't felt any movement yet... but I'm convinced that it will happen by next week! ) This is my first baby and I'm 39 years old (hence the reason why this will be my second ultra-sound.... I am considered high risk due to age). Keep me posted on your progress and try not to worry! Dee
Guest guest
I am 18 weeks pregnant and showing have not gained but a little over an ounce- I can't wear any of my 10/12 pants wear XL pants with ties to tie them I like really lose clothes- Good Luck to all of you.. Michele -- Re: catching up/showing I'm only 11 weeks and 5 days, but am showing. Not sure if it's baby or partially because of my hernia, but considering I can't get anywhere near my size 10's, either the baby or the hernia or a combination thereof is causing quite a thickness. I'm unfortunatley able to wear size 16's or maternity clothing. AND I've gained 10 pounds since finding out I'm pregnant. I'm trying not to have issues with this, although hearing the rest of you not gaining weight is REALLY bothering me! Guest guest
Jacque, I would bet that you are showing primarily because of your hernia. And believe me, I would LOVE to be gaining weight and showing. I don't feel that I'm really " pregnant " without those factors. I guess I am just a natural worrier. I know that if I WAS gaining, I'd probably be freaked out by that, too. I just don't know what to expect, so every little thing seems like it's some kind of " sign " . I just read the post from someone saying that they felt movement with both children at 16 weeks, and here I am at 19 weeks without a single " kick " . Now I can freak out about that, too! LOL I guess I won't be sure of anything until the little peanut is safely in my arms. Although all of you Mom's out there are probably laughing at that because I'm sure that's just the BEGINNING of all the worrying! ) I think all I can do is hope and pray that what I've been doing thus far is right for the baby. I just can't wait to see that ultrasound next week to prove that he/she is still in there!!!! Hope everyone is having a good evening... Guest guest
I thought I would add to this and tell everyone my little experience at the doc's office this last Friday. I have had to switch to a new pain management doc and my first appointment was on Friday. I first met with the nurse and as she was going over my chart she said, " Your 6 months pregnant, where is the baby? " Now, I know I look pregnant and so does my husband, but I feel that with all my hanging skin on my belly, and the fact that I am carrying high, I think I just look fat. With the comment that the nurse said that kinda confirmed my suspicions and bummed me out, though I'm trying not to let it get me down. My Mom was sweet enough to buy me my first maternity shirt as one of my Christmas gifts and when I wore it she said it looked cute, but I feel totally weird in it, especially since it is medium in size. Personally I don't think it fits properly but my Mom says that I buy all my clothes in to big of a size. I know that this is still me dealing with body image issues and now being pregnant I guess its becoming more of an issue. The only clothes I feel " right " in are the few sweat pants and sweat shirts that I didn't get rid of after losing so much weight and I still am strongly compelled to dress in any way as to make my belly look as small as possible. Wearing maternity pants is very hard for me because there is nothing there to help me push my belly in, a totally foreign concept for me. Does this make any sense to anyone? Most days I feel like my belly is sticking out a mile and I find myself constantly " sucking it in " . I really hope that this doesn't become more of an issue for me. Does anyone else seem to be dealing with this? Having these feelings about my body in combination with seeing the scale creep up is making me just feel fat again, not pregnant. Axelrod Re: catching up/showing jacque i know how you feel, as far as having issues with the weight gain although i have gained 4 pnds its really bothering even though i know i need to gain for babys sake..i am almost 19 weeks and im showing also, i feel fat even though everyone says im small its still the thought of gaining and getting bigger...im sure you look good though! Guest guest
Dee and Kristi, I, too, am 39 with my first pregnancy. I didn't start to show until the end of my 5th month/beginning of my sixth, and then I just suddenly seemed to pop out there! LOL! Now, you can DEFINATELY tell I'm pregnant at 30 weeks! LOL! Guest guest
, I COMPLETELY understand where you are coming from. I am dealing with the exact same issues. I just feel FAT... I went to my first birthing class on Friday, and of the ten other couples there, I was the only one didn't have the " typical " pregnant curve... because of my loose skin. It is so disheartening. My dh (wonderful, wonderful man), keeps reassuring me that it isn't fat, it's baby... and I keep having to tell myself that, too. Sigh... I keep feeling like I " got a hippopotumus " for Christmas, myself... lol. Wearing Maternity clothes instead of my " fat " clothes has helped some. I keep making myself NOT tighten my tummy, too... my abs start hurting if I hold myself in too much. Plus, on doesn't really like it (my little yump!) and lets me know about it by kicking the heck out of me! LOL! I guess the best way I know to deal with this is by constantly reassuring myself that it isn't fat... it's baby... and it will be okay. SO... I'm telling YOU: It IS NOT fat... It's BABY! And, it WILL BE OKAY! :~) Hugs Sharon > I thought I would add to this and tell everyone my little experience at the doc's office this last Friday. Guest guest
, I know exactly how you are feeling. I am currently sitting here in some " lounging " pants that I bought when I was about 4 months along, and they are still a little lose. I did buy them in a 2x thinking I would be able to wear them the whole pregnancy. I am currently wearing a large size (12-14) in " regular clothing. Last week I was in the baby section at walmart looking for foot rattles, and when I asked the sales woman if they had any, she looked at me and asked how old my baby was, and when I said I was due in about 4 weeks she looked at my stomach and said " you are so tiny! I wouldn't believe you were going on 9 months!! " I tried to put it off to the fact that I was wearing sweats and a long shirt, but honestly, if you didn't know I was pregnant, you really wouldn't be able to tell. I hit 36 weeks thursday, and having daily contractions, but all I really see when I look in the mirror is this minor mound under my breasts (he is sitting high also) and this hanging skin that I swear looks like an udder! I figure that since our skin is so stretched out from being heavy that it filling out to allow for the baby isn't stress on the body, it is just kind of reacting in a " memory " roll. I don't know if that makes sense or not. Guest guest
Thanks Sharon, your words brought a smile to my face. Guest guest
Good... I'm glad to help. It helped ME to write it out, too! :~) I have that hippo song stuck in my head... so I changed the words: I got a hippopotomus for Christmas, I might get as big as even TWO! No tinker toys, just a little boy, Just a little boy to play with and enjoy! LOL... I guess if you don't know what you are having you could sing, " just a little one, just a little one to play with and have fun! " Gotta do SOMETHING to keep my spirits up! :~) Sharon > > I thought I would add to this and tell everyone my little > experience at the doc's office this last Friday.
