Guest guest
I am expecting in July and have 3 already and I have 4 dogs ( 2 out, 2 in) and 6 cats. I am NOT getting rid of any of them nor have I ever. They ahve NEVER bothered my babies. I would be careful of the cats trying to cuddle in with the baby but that is it. I bought me a bassinet from Sears.com that can go anywhere with you and has a netting to go up so no bugs, flys or cats or any other critter can get in their with the baby. It was under 50.00 and was shipped right to my house in a few days. You may find it is a great investment. I am also going to look for a netting to go over the crib to keep any cats from going in there. Tell Mom it will be okay, I have never read anything in the paper of any babies being hurt by a cat and the dogs will adjust to the baby too as they usually do. Let them smell it and lick it while you are holding it so they are not jealous and they will be fine. Good Luck with everything, it will be fine HUGS, ROBIN, NY Age- 41 Due Date- #4 July 27th, 2004 OPEN RNY 10-18-02 378/246/170??? Guest guest
Dennisse Relax girl- I have 2 dogs 1 cat a Macaw the Macaw is bad with the kids I just keep him caged and out in the morning when they are sleeping etc... Your dogs will come around to the baby- things will work out just fine- Just watch the dogs they will learn to love your baby as much as you do my dogs did just fine I even have a old man dog that is great with them- Good Luck Michele -- Question about kids Hello everyone, I've seen that a lot of you already have children and seem or seem to have experience witht hem so this question is kind of for you. I'm due with my first in about 2 weeks and I'm finding myself in a panic. House isn't ready yet, things aren't clean enough, still buying baby stuff...etc. My big concern is about pets though. I used to adopt everyone's strays and have quite a few animals, 3 dogs and 3 cats and 2 ferrets. I know ferrets and kids don't mix, but the little furballs are caged and I take them out only for supervised play so i'm not all that worried about them. The kitties and dogs are a concern though. Do any of you have pets and kids? My mom is making me all paranoid about it as if my dog is going to run off with my child and eat it. I'm hoping she's just being a mom but she's said it so often it's made me all paranoid. I don't want to get rid of my furry babies (They've been everything to us up until now) but I don't want to endanger my little girl. Any views or advice? Thanks so much! Guest guest
I have 3 cats, 2 dogs and 2 fish, and I do some mild dog training. This is what I was told by a dog training friend of mine: Take a tape recorder to the hospital, tape the baby crying, and have the partner play the tape at home, this will allow the animals to get used to the sound of the baby crying before he/she gets home. Also take a receiving blanket and wrap the baby up in it for a while, and take it home to the animals, it will allow them to get used to the scent of the child. Once the animals are acclimated to the smell and sounds of the child they won't be as stress, but until you are 100% sure, and probably not even then should you leave the baby unsupervised alone with the dogs. I hope this helps! NIki Question about kids Hello everyone, I've seen that a lot of you already have children and seem or seem to have experience witht hem so this question is kind of for you. Guest guest
I have two children and 1 on the way in the next few weeks. We have 2 cats and 4 dogs. The cats aren't really a problem. The only problem I have had with the cats is them sleeping in the babies crib. I didn't like the idea of them sleeping there nor did I like the fur that they left behind in the crib. So I bought a cozy tent cover that secures to the crib. It is great. It allows you to keep the baby in the crib and you can keep the matress up higher for a longer period of time because the baby is zipped in and secure in the crib. You can buy one at babies r us online. We don't have a crib for this baby so I bought one that attaches to the playyard bassinet. Very nice item to have even if you don't have pets. It is secure enough that if a cat jumped on top of it it can support the cats weight and doesn't cave in. In fact it is one of the selling points on the package of the tent. As far as the dogs go I wouldn't worry about them. Just introduce them slowly to the baby and keep an eye on them. You won't have much to worry about with the dogs until the baby becomes more mobile. Then you just have to make sure the dogs are calm around the baby and is not protective of their food, bones or toys. Good luck, Lori Hines
Guest guest
Hi there, Thanks for the ideas! My cats are dolls in general but are very clingy with me so we think they may be interested in cuddling the baby. Any ideas for keeping them out of the babies crib is appreciated and will probably be tried! As for the dogs, they're a concern because one is overly protective of me and the other thinks I gave birth to her, but overall what everyone has been telling me is making me feel a whole lot more secure. Thanks a lot! Dennisse > I have two children and 1 on the way in the next few > weeks. We have 2 cats and 4 dogs. The cats aren't > really a problem. Guest guest
This nesting thing is really starting to bug me! I'm a really laid back person, a little dust or puppy fuzz never much bothered me. But now, I feel like a cleaning and purging nazi. My poor husband has thrown out more bags of stuff and painted more than he ever has in his whole life, poor poor guy. And the pets, they have no idea what's going on with the furniture moving and crazy mommy behavior. It's been insane, hopefully I become a bit more normal once is arrives (Soon!) =) Dennisse > I have a cat, who was a kitten when was born. She has nevr bothered > the baby. Guest guest
Thanks for this advice, I will try it out! My dogs are *slightly* trained, in that one of them got trained but has forgotten most of it (My fault, of course) and the other two I never bothered with since they were mostly good and calm anyway. We'll never leave them unsupervised but the blanket and tape idea are great and should hopefully help keep the puppies a little more even kiltered. I think I'll also introdice her in her car seat/carrier thing that way she's more secure (The biggest dog is *huge* so it's safer than having her in my arms at first) and hopefully that'll make everything a little more fluid. Thanks! Dennisse > I have 3 cats, 2 dogs and 2 fish, and I do some mild dog training. Guest guest
Good luck for your July baby! You must be so excited. I know I was even though I was also terrified (This being #1 and all). I'd never get rid of my furry babies unless there was just no other choice and even then I'd try to find alternatives. I'm sure the baby will get licked plenty as I have a licker and ignored even more but hopefully they'll all be friends in the long run. And since you also have a good bunch of pets it's the closest to my situation (Or my zoo as my mom calls it) Hope everything is going smoothly for ya!
