Guest guest
I know that we don't normally get acid reflux into our new pouches but theoretically I think it is possible. Also, we definitely CAN get ulcers in our real stomach still, and indigestion-type symptoms also. I know that some surgeons prescribe Prilosec or Nexium or other acid reducers for all of their postop patients for the first 6 months to a year. As far as knowing whether or not they are allowed, I do not....but if your OB says okay, I would at least try them to see if they help your symptoms. Take care and hope you feel better, Mandi in Concord, NC Postop Distal RNY 09/23/02 17 weeks.....gosh could this go any slower?? LOL
Guest guest
Pam, Doesn't Prilosec cut down on acids produced by the stomach? From what I understood since we have cut away most of our stomach we don't have much acid production in our pouch so I'm thinking Prilosec won't help you. How far along are you? When I was in my second trimester I had what felt like an acid stomach and like you, I took tums and stuff like that, and it didn't help much either. I went through this on and off a few days a week for several weeks. Now that I'm 33 weeks it hasn't happen in a while thankfully. The only thing that really ended up helping me was taking some stool softeners and having a BM, which for me would happen in a day or two from taking the softeners. Good luck and I hope you get some relief soon, but I don't think the Prilosec will help. Axelrod has anyone taken prilosec while pregnant?? I was wondering if anyone on here had any experience taking prilosec while pregnant? The other day I had what i thought was a bad case of dumping syndrome. It may have been a stomach virus. I got sick which i never do. Then next day i had a burning sensation in my pouch all day long. I took mylanta, tums and milk of magnesia that day and it didn't help much. Now my pouch still feels swollen. My surgeon recomended prilosec otc but said to check with my OB and unfortunately he was closed friday. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Pam Children are a blessing, and a gift from the Lord. -Psalm 127:
Guest guest
I really wasn't sure if it would help much either. I am 24 weeks pregnant with twins. I really am not having a heartburn sensation anymore its more like indigestion now. Its just an uncomfortable feeling. I appreciate your response and i hope i get some relief soon too!! Thanks again for responding so quickly. Pam > Pam, > Doesn't Prilosec cut down on acids produced by the stomach? Guest guest
Pam, Well, at least at 24 weeks your over the half way mark! Maybe try drinking some warm tea or something to ease your stomach since its more of an indigestion feeling. Good luck with the twins! How awesome for you! I'm a twin and though I don't know any different, I can say I really wouldn't have it any other way. Guest guest
I am on perscription strength prilosec, and have been taking it since I was about 3-4 months along. I have had no problems with it. Not sure what more information you might want.... Niki has anyone taken prilosec while pregnant?? I was wondering if anyone on here had any experience taking prilosec while pregnant? Guest guest
Pam, depending on the size of your pouch you may still have active acid receptors. I have a 1.5 oz pouch and although I don't produce much acid at all I do still producea tad, many do. I've been on other sites where people talk of being put on acid reducers to help soothe their pouches during the healing period and to prevent ulcers. I was given the go ahead by my OB to take a dose of my prescription strength Prevacid (works in much the same way as Prilosec) if I was refluxing or experiencing other stomach problems that tums or MOM couldn't take care of. Congratulations on your two babies and good luck with your tummy. Toi
Guest guest
I take prilosec and it works like a charm. The doc said it was fine. Some of us get a high acid environment due to the lovely little cootie h. pylori and so prilosec helps immensely! Aali > > Pam, > > Doesn't Prilosec cut down on acids produced by the stomach?
