In fact, if they look great (7, 8 or 9 apgars) and weigh over 4.5# they go to well born nursery. Are you in the U.S.? Just wondering.... Here, prematurity doesn't mean a mandatory NICU stay. Guest guest
In the Australian hospital where i'm at we only have a combined NICU/ Nursery. so all babies premature or term and sick go there. Cathy
Guest guest
you can't get our NICU RN's to take anything with anything less than a 6/8 apgar...lol We just changed protocol that we only even call NICU if the gestation is less than 36 weeks. Any baby, no matter the gestation, will go to Wellborn nursery unless they have low apgars or are low birthweight.
