I am sorry it was scary, but thankful that you had your good friend with you to keep you at ease. And the best news is that all is fine, that is great.!!! I hope your muscles start to feel better soon. I had a nice holiday, but wasn't able to spend it with family b/c I couldn't get myself out of bed that day. But my husband was here with me and that is what made the day extra special. I hope you had a good holiday and was able to share it with friends and family. It was an open style MRI, but still you are in enough to make a severely claustrophobic person not a happy camper. Especially with that head helmet thing. But it is done and I already have the results, and all is fine. My muscles are not doing so well and I have been having an awful time of that. But well enough now to be getting around. I am glad your hubby was with you for the holiday, and you are right, it is those special people that make everything extra special. I am sorry you were having such a hard day though. But love by your side always makes the day easier to take when we are so fatigued or hurting etc. My boys and their families were here with my hubby and me, and everything was wonderful. They take such good care of me and are always on the lookout to make sure mom doesn't do to much. I am very blessed indeed. It's definitely a good feeling when you get back a report that says everything is okay. I'm sorry that you are experiencing problems with your muscles. Do you take anything for that? Didn't you go to Boston for a sleep study? Did I miss how that turned out or have I just dreamt this up in my mind? Hope your Thanksgiving was a good one. Who did the cooking? I had a very nice day with family and was good - not eating too much. We are expecting my son and his family here for Christmas. They are driving down from upstate NY. I can't help but worry about that long trip at that time of year though. Hopefully, the weather will be in their favor. What a wonderful thing to look forward to. No, I didn't have a sleep study in Boston, just saw the sleep specialist. I have had about 10 studies I guess, they are all about the same. The trick is to get someone to fix the problems and get me to sleep!! So far it hasn't happened, I will give him another chance at me:) I was suppose to go back this coming week, but had to cancel it as my hubby wants me to be with him on a trip. We are praying about it now, as I am not moving well at all. But I doubt I will cancel it if I can move at all. I take demerol and soma for the muscle pain. It can get pretty severe and is always with me to some extent. I was down and out for sometime just a few weeks back, but it was another section of muscle that time, I managed to stay out of the hospital though, of which we didn't think was going to happen. My kids brought almost all the food with them, I just did a very little. When they leave they vacuume, change sheets, do all the laundry and any other chores that need to be done here so that I am not trying to pick up. One daughter in law and little grandson brought their rakes and did up my fallen leaves no less! I am just so incredibly blessed by my children I can't say enough thanks. My MRI was a couple of weeks ago and I got through it better than ever before. It was an older model this time, not the open per se, but more so in that the tunnel was in the center of a room--unlike KUMC and UCSD where they run you so far inside the mammoth machine that it feels like you're being buried alive in the side of a mountain. This may sound weird but one of the things that I hated the most about having a brain tumor was the need for regular MRIs the rest of my life. But this setup was much easier for me to handle, even better than what is called the " open " model. Report says the meningioma has grown more than expected since last MRI so we have started the process of scheduling Gamma Knife for January. I do hope that the Gamma Knife will do what it is supposed to for you. (I don't know anything about it - presume it is a lazer-type surgery?) I do know your feelings about MRI. I have a " nodule " on my adrenal gland that needs regular monitoring, and the darned MRI has me on my knees. Last time I thought I was ok, and had to come right out of it. Just could not do it. My mistake was overconfidence - I had thought I could do it without premedication. I take no unnecessary meds, but Valium before an MRI is a must for me, I understand now. I hope they improve that technology soon, so that it is a little easier for us to do. Again, Barbara, best of luck with the Gamma Knife treatment. Reading this is like the slap in the face I needed this morning as I was near tears because my hubby just told me he cannot let me go to Honduras with him today because my muscles are so bad and he will not take the chance on me getting worse and being stranded in a 3rd world country with not even a remote chance of quick evacuation for me if things got worse. Sorry to hear you also have the reg MRI ordeal, but I have to say it helps me to know that others find a way to deal with it. There are so many good role models in this group. Gamma Knife is a one-time, highly-focused, heavy dose of radiation. It is used to halt growth of brain tumors where craniotomy is not an option. The scary part of GK is the risk of damage to peripheral brain tissue, as well as not knowing how radiation will affect the underlying mito disease. Another venture in faith. I feel terrible for you having to go through that over and over. Ihave had 2 different " open " MRI's and they were both completely different. The first one was like a tunnel but it was not closed in, you could see out of the sides of it and there was plenty of room over head, but it was a long thing. This last one was a big round flat machine on top and bottom. Only a small portion of my body was under it. I had to call around to find the open kind. They do not have these at my local hospital. Someone had mentioned that this might of looked like a donut type thing, like the CT scanners are. but it was not like that at all. Is there any chance you find another place that you won't mind as much? We have enough stress inour lives, anything to get rid of a little more is great. I pray that you will have great peace through this surgery and it will come out with the optimum results. One of the things I use when I start to get down is to remind myself that I could be living full time in a 3rd world country with this disease!!! That usually perks me right up. haha I get down, but it is only for a matter of hours and I am able to see the blessings again. Or like today, get a good slap in the face of reality and am thankful for that. Very scary. The MRI I had most recently is the machine of my choice--definitely the best experience yet. We do have an open MRI available locally but we were not getting reliable measurements on the tumor there, so I opted for the MRI at the other end of town this time. It turned out to be quite tolerable. If this is the worst thing I ever have to do, I can't complain too much! Tks for the caring words. I have difficulty breathing while lying flat and the tech was kind enough to tell me that there is a " stand up " MRI in the area. (poor guy - he was trying to accommodate me but I kept asking for " more foam " to put under my head and shoulders). I had no idea they now have the stand up type - or I wouldn't have wasted everyone's time. Barbara, sorry your MRI results weren't better and that you need to have this procedure after the holidays. I'll be thinking of you and hoping this goes well.
