Guest guest
I wore my son in a sling. The sling I used was a maya sling. I carried my own high chair to restaurants. It was one of those that you can attach to any chair or seat. It would not work for booths. I could carry my son in a sling and nurse him and shop and no one even knew that I was nursing. If you need more info on slings just email me offline. I hope this helps you. Guest guest
Hi, When we know for sure I am either going grocery shopping or out to eat, we plan that for that day that's the hour or two that he's out of his shoes. Mine is one year old. When I plan a spur of the moment trip to the store, I put him in his infant carrier, otherwise he uses a toddler car seat now. But for those trips I haul that out. Restaurants we just use his stroller. It seems to be the most convenient and we don't go anywhere with the kids that that would be inappropriate at. But if anyone has any other ideas, I would love to hear them too. 10-09-03 atypical bl cf dbb 23/7 > > I am wondering what you experienced DBB moms do to have a portable > baby in a DBB.... for example - she cannot sit in restaraunt high > chairs unless I was to take off the bar and screw it back on, > trapping her in the chair. Guest guest
Im a military wife who's hubby is deployed for the SECOND time this year so I end up doing alot of shopping alone. I take a rather thick blanket and lay it down in the cargo part of the cart and put Elijah on his tummy. He LOVES it. Our 2 yo sits in the seat part and I just put all our items either on the bottom rack or in the cargo area w/ Elijah (if its something that wont hurt him if he chews on it). As for going out to eat, I just sit him on my lap (or my husband holds him if he's around). Since he's eating solid food now, he prefers our lap anyway. At home, we have a booster chair with its own tray but he tends to slip out of it. Hes not really used to sitting up on his own yet and the weight of the shoes and bar drag him down and makes him slump in the chair. Guest guest
Grocery shopping is the worst. For big trips, I would usually leave with my husband or ask him to come along and push the stroller. That way we'd usually get it done faster anyway. For small trips, the stroller is fine. Now we're still dealing with the problem of the cart seats being too big and practically flips out of them. THe seatbelts are usually inadequate and I'm always afraid he'll hurt himself. If you can, like someone else suggested I would just choose to make that the hour or so per day when the shoes come off, if you can't get help with the stroller. As far as the high chair, I bought the Fisher Price booster seat (the blue and green one) and it's the best investment I've ever made, but any portable high chair will work. Not only does it accommodate his shoes, but you can avoid nasty restaurant high chairs. Sometimes strollers (at least mine) are too big for narrow aisles where waitresses have to pass with trays of food, which makes me nervous. I also like having at eye level sitting up at the table with us, and he seems to enjoy it too. We keep our high chair in the car so we always have it when we're out. 11.23.03 > > I am wondering what you experienced DBB moms do to have a portable > baby in a DBB.... for example - she cannot sit in restaraunt high > chairs unless I was to take off the bar and screw it back on, > trapping her in the chair. Guest guest
Great shopping idea- thank you!!! When going out to eat, I have been doing the same thing. But Livi sure likes to grab everything on the table amd cause as much destruction as possible. It sounds like Elijah and Livi are about the same age. Thanks again for your help! Guest guest
It's funny, I read this post last night and this morning I dropped my older son off at school and took Christian to the Grocery store with me. We got out of the car and I carried him into the area where all the carts where. Apparently, I wasn't thinking because I actually started putting him in the seat on top and the bar hit the metal piece in the middle...lol.I said to myself " guess that won't work! Guest guest
Believe me, you'll figure it out. As for grocery carts, I'd set Everett in to the basket part once he could sit up, rather than the kiddie-chair part. But I also used a sling when he was too little to sit up and it worked OK with the DBB on, you just need to experiment with what is comfortable for the two of you. Sometimes I'd take a baby blanket and lay that in the grocery buggy for him to lay on....I didn't like putting my kids in those buggies with the built-in baby carrier, those seats always seems filthy and gross - total germ carriers. For that matter, I avoid using the regular seat-part when possible for the same reason - they get their hands on a handle that's hand a thousand filthy hands on it all day then put their hands in their mouth As for eating out? Unless your family just eats out a whole lot it's a fairly non-issue. We just hold him on our lap. Good luck! s.
Guest guest
Darby, If your grocery store's carts allow the infant carrier to snap onto the top and fit well (I've found some carts work better than others with our infant carrier)...you can always put Livi in the infant carrier on the grocery cart if she still fits in it okay. Just store it in the trunk of your car and use it during outings if she fits in it. She might be too big for it for transporting in the car, but still fit in it okay for use on the grocery carts etc. was in the brace full time from age 5-8 months, and we often just undid one shoe, slid the brace through the bar and re-attached the shoe for grocery trips, restaurant high chairs, stroller (ours had a permanent bar between the legs), exersaucer time etc. I had one of those seat covers that I could strap her into the grocery cart seat snugly and it covered the handle too. Just a thought! & (3-16-00) left clubfoot

Guest guest
It's funny about the grocery cart handles - I just watched a news report that tested the germs on those things - it was REALLY bad - all of the carts had truly disgusting things on them - fecal matter and such. Maybe our club foot babies are just lucky they don't have to sit in those seats (at least not yet). When Livi isn't in her bar all day, I am definately going to be wiping down the cart handles with something first. Thanks! Darby Livi's mama 3/15/04 EDD#2 5/12/05 > Believe me, you'll figure it out. Guest guest
We were out of full-time wear by about 6 months old. Even though we weren't using the infants seat any longer in the car as long as he had his bar on and he wasn't past the weight limit on the infant carrier, we carried in the back of our van. I would put him in it during shopping (because ours would attatch to the basket that they usually sit on in the cart). And I would also use it in restaurants because it would attatch to the wooden highchairs. It wasn't ideal, but it worked temporarily. Guest guest
We live in a very small apartment and honestly have no where else to put them.. we never use the playpen unless we are visiting someone else, and we never use the stroller unless we go somewhere in the car. We also live on the 4th floor and have horrible parking arrangements, so carting the two back and forth between our apartment and the car is a big hassle. > Just curious, why do you carry a play pen and stroller everywhere? > s. > > Re: DBB in restaurants, grocery shopping? > > > > > How funny!
