Guest guest
We have these little I think " felt " strips. They are very soft and thin and the one side is sticky so we put on the heel above the top and it provides traction for him. Guest guest
I think these are called Plastizoid inserts. Not sure i spelled that right. Anyway, Dr Herzenberg gave us a bit of it when we got the first pair of shoes. I think he told us if we needed anymore we could probably find it in our local pharmacy. Might want to check that out.. Good luck! --------- Padded inserts to keep heel down > > > Hi everyone, > > I had just read previously that someone on here had used padded > inserts to keep their little one's heels down. Guest guest
, The Plastizode inserts were traditionally used in the Markell shoes and were custom made/altered by the folks at American Prosthetics and Orthotics. They bought the horseshoe shaped foam inserts, then " shaved " them at an angle so they weren't so thick to cause sores. I don't believe they're used too often anymore since Markell re-designed the shoes to have the padded collar and heel relief area. I don't know if they'd be applicable to the shoes or not. There's info on the plastizode inserts in the files section under the FAB folder in the info from Hall. There's also pictures of them in the old-style Markell shoes in there. It sounds to me like 's shoes aren't fitting properly if you're not able to keep his heels down. Do you have or Markell shoes? Have you contacted Dr. P about it? I hope this helps- & (3-16-00) > > Hi everyone, > > I had just read previously that someone on here had used padded > inserts to keep their little one's heels down. Was that from > ? Guest guest
Are you in the shoes or the other ones? We are in the mitchells and I'm excited to be this far, but I just can't seem to keep his heels down. mentioned platizoid inserts that I'm going to ask Dr. P about. When we talked to him last he just said that we needed to get jason into Physical therapy because of the surgeries he's had. He wasn't sure the heel would come down all the way, so we needed to keep stretching it. But he told another mom in this group that it can take a couple weeks for the heel to settle down into the shoe. That's all I've gotten for now, but I'll see what else I can find. 10-09-04 atypical bl cf > > If you find anything, please pass it on. I am also struggling with the same > situation. Guest guest
Hi , thanks for the info. We have the shoes. I will see what else I can find out. I have talked to dr. p about it and because of jason's tightness and the two surgeries dr. p's done, he wasn't sure the heel would come down without physical therapy which we are starting next week. But I know 's feet can be flat in there, I just can't seem to keep them that way. We're trying the extra hole tonight, but the insert just seemed to make a lot of sense, a cushion to lift his foot up and go behind the ankle to push it forward a bit. Maybe I'll see what can come up with too. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate the responses! 10-09-04 atypical bl cf DBB 23/7 > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > I had just read previously that someone on here had used padded > > inserts to keep their little one's heels down. Guest guest
I am currently using my 2nd set of shoes. When you say the heel won't go down - how far are we talking about? How much of a gap between the bottom of his foot and the shoe? It appears to be somewhat true that the heel doesn't always go down totally snug in these shoes but in my experience the child grows in to it rather soon and these shoes seem to gradually form fit over the feet. I have had no problem keeping the foot in them. Sounds like you do not have them buckled up tight enough. I know it almost seems inhumane to tighten them THAT tight, but it's necessary. A regular shoe, no I wouldn't pull it that snug, but on these DBB shoes that MUST hold the foot in place, it's necessary to be a big mean mommy and snug them down. If you really think you have them just as tight as they'll go to the point of not causing pain, then perhaps your shoes are too large for the feet. WHO told you to put him in Physical Therapy? Dr. Ponseti, or ? This is not 's call to advise you in my opinion!!! Hope it gets better for you. s. Guest guest
Hi, We were in the smaller shoe, size one, but his foot was too wide for those and kept slipping out and we had them on extremely tight. These new ones we have the middle strap tight where there is no give, I physically cannot get them any tighter, but the top ankle strap we've run out of holes. My husband is going to try adding another hole to see if that might help. You can see part of his heel in the little holes, but it seems to me that they should be flat on the shoe shouldn't they? It's almost like the size ones were a touch too small and now these two's are a touch too big. I too heard from another mom that the foot should settle into the shoe in a few weeks, I guess I am just terrified of losing what progress we've made as it's been such a struggle to get this far. And it's just the right foot that I am having problems with mostly. Do you think it may be the bar length that is causing the heel to slip out, it seems to want to go out sideways a bit more. I kinda thought it was because that top ankle strap just wasn't tight enough. It was Dr. P that told us to get him back into physical therapy. The first time he sent us to PT was after his first surgery and Dr. P said the incisions were too tight and we needed to loosen them. Now he wants us to go back because after the second surgery he said they are still too tight in the heel this time, first time it was along the insteps. I guess that means we are making progress. Thank you so much for your help. It's so nice to have some place to go for all of this. Makes you feel not quite so all alone. jason 10-09-03 hahaha, just realized I've been putting his wrong birthdate on all the other times...duh! He's really one, not a few weeks old. It's been a really long two weeks! > > > > If you find anything, please pass it on. I am also struggling with > the same > > situation. Guest guest
Please forgive me for sounding stupid, but are these to provide traction on outside of shoe for the bottom or inside the shoe to keep foot in place...both of which we are having a problem with as we have hardwood floors here all over hte place. I'm just having a hard time picturing how these actually work and for which use. Thank you so much for the info. 10-09-03 atypical bl cf DBB 23/7 > > We have these little I think " felt " strips. Guest guest
, If you not looking at it…its hard to picture what we are talking about. You would put them on the top of the shoe in the back near the ankle ( ½ inside ½ outside). A small piece could also be placed on the bottom of the inside of the shoe for more traction. Hope this helps. Guest guest
, Moleskin foam also works well. It is the same thing as the regular moleskin sheets, but it has a foam padding on the back of the moleskin. I just makes it a little softer and gives it a little extra padding. It is also made by Dr. Scholl's. I hope this will be a solution for 's shoes. Let us know how it works. > > > > We have these little I think " felt " strips. Guest guest
, it might also help to see a picture of what the plastizote insert looks like as well. You can see one if you click on the files section here and then go to the FAB directory...there is a file in there called " plastizodeinsert.jpg " . I've cut and pasted it here but not sure if it'll work: http://f2.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/AIB6QelWDpgUS206WOIqPLsza2R8k1dWhdUKkjpVh TbCUADFjQFo_ut8k5mi-ZEP3pndQR5RtArO4OYlQz9r0FEpF3TEUA/Bracing%20file% 2C%20FAB%20%28DBB%29/FAB/plastizodeinsert.jpg Hope this helps, Daiga and Owen, 02/04/03 Unilateral LCF, FAB 14/24 > > > > We have these little I think " felt " strips.
