Guest guest
My son (non clubfoot) was this way as an infant as well. My pediatrician said some babies just absorb all the food into their bodies. My son would go once a week. When I eventually switched to formula he started to go every 3 days or so. I was always worried and kept calling the peditricians office constantly. They always reassured me he was healthy and it was okay. However, warning signs would be very hard stool (rabbit pellets), black stool or blood in stool. Also, if you are breastfeeding, you may have to give up dairy products. Does your baby seem fussy? My daughter, with bcf, also had problems, but it was not the casts, but the dairy issue. I had to give up dairy. She is now 8 months, wearing s, and will have a bm once every other day. I had to give up breastfeeding early with her because she could not handle my milk even after I gave up dairy. Every baby is different. Did your pediatrician say the stool looked okay? Guest guest
The stool looks fine, but I know what you mean about calling the dr's office a lot. I finally have given into the fact that he just holds on to it longer. My dr said the same thing about dairy and I've basically cut it out of my diet. I don't plan to bf much longer since I'm going back to work, but mainly because he reacts to everything I eat. > My son (non clubfoot) was this way as an infant as well. Guest guest
Are you breastfeeding or is your baby on formula? If your baby is on formula then switch formulas because that is propably the culprit. There is no need for a baby to bring there legs up in order to poop at 10 weeks because their diet is liquid only and so is there poop. That is very bizarre your pedi would say that. > >Reply-To: nosurgery4clubfoot >To: nosurgery4clubfoot >Subject: clubfeet and constipation >Date: Thu, 18 Nov 2004 15:05:18 -0000 > > >My 10-week old never has a dirty diaper (unless I give him a >suppository). Guest guest
My son always has dirty nappies 2 or 3 times a day and did when he was in casts and in the DBB. Why would they need to bring up their legs?? I'm now looking forward to potty training as he is 19months and always manages to go just as we are leaving the house!!!! I think some kids go a lot and some don't. My sisters kids don't go for days and they are dairy free completely. Rach Steve & Connor -- clubfeet and constipation My 10-week old never has a dirty diaper (unless I give him a suppository). He can go 8 days without going. My pediatrician thought it could be due to his casts since he couldn't bring his knees as high??? Who knows, but I was curious if anyone else has this problem. Guest guest
The movement of the legs helps to push on bowels etc to help bowel movements occur. this is why doing the bicylce movements also helps with gas. Some babies have more difficult times with bowel movements and need to work a little more t this. Kelsey was breastfed and had some difficulty occasionally because of her immature digestive system. If you worked her legs, it would help the bowel movement pass so I assume this is what the pediatrician was referring to. Guest guest
My daughter didn't have dirty diapers for weeks, and my ped kept telling me it was fine! Lousy stinkin' doctor! My daughter wasn't getting enough milk! I was EXTREMELY sore & cracked & would tense up every time I nursed so I prevented my let down reflex and in turn started drying up my milk. I never got wet (you know, waking up in a pool of milk in the middle of the night), never needed breast pads. My daughter lost ALOT of weight, she looked like one of those babies you see on tv--scrawny little arms & legs (except for the cast) HUGE eyes in a sunken face. But my doc still insisted she was okay, that it takes some babies a while. Not until my nips healed up & I relaxed she started getting milk. But I honestly believe she should have been supplemented, and I'm VERY pro-breastfeeding. I wouldn't ever have expected so much trouble, being she's my 3rd & I had no trouble bf the other 2--no soreness or anything. I guess what I'm trying to say is TRUST YOUR GUT. If your baby looks healthy & acts happy he's probably fine. I KNEW my baby wasn't right--all she wanted to do was suck and suck and she screamed constantly. Now I realize she was STARVING. When I see pics of how skinny she was I feel so bad. Now she's making up for lost time--3 1/2 mos & 15 1/2 lbs! , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 (right CF)
Guest guest
My son had the same problem. It was the cast. Are you breastfeeding? What color is the stool. If you are breastbfeeding the stool should be of a mustard color and consistancy. My son would only go about every three weeks. It got to the point where I would count the days and worry so bad. Then he would finally go. I would cheer. Also you should rub his tummy in a clockwise fashion it will help his bowels to move. He had a lot of colic (gas) due to he could not lift his legs up. I talked with my Dr. and Le Leche League. Le Leche League is in the phonebook. They help with breastfeeding issues. I found that it is okay for a breastfeed infant to take up to three weeks to poop. Some infants put it all to use so that there is no waste. However, you need to watch for signs of dehydration. Sunken eyes, weight loss, suken soft spot ect. You also need to be changing 7 - 10 disposable wet diapers. I think it might be less if you are using cloth. Also trust your instincts if you think that there is something wrong with your child then something is wrong. Don't let anyone tell it is not. Do what you instincts tell you to do. How old is your baby? My son is now 22 months. His problem ceased once he was out of the casts and in the DBB. Hope this helps. Feel free to email me offline. LaRena P.S. If your son has problems with colic (gas) try Hylands colic tablets. You should be able to find them at your local grocery store. mfolkemer_1999 mlfsmith@...> wrote: My 10-week old never has a dirty diaper (unless I give him a suppository). Guest guest
I'm breastfeeding which you would think wouldn't make him constipated. I've tried adjusting my diet and everything, but no luck. > Are you breastfeeding or is your baby on formula? If your baby is on formula > then switch formulas because that is propably the culprit. Guest guest
Is he breastfed? This is normal with breastfed babies come a certain time. Around this age. Up to 2 weeks even, my ped had one daughter who went that long. Sorry so late on this thread - for whatever it's worth... my CF baby never went more than 2 or 3 days while my two older sons were in the week to 10 day range. Guest guest
Aidan is going through the same thing. I gave him Karo syrup & that did the trick (oh did it do the trick!!!) But now we're dealing with it again, 3 days and counting, lots of farting but no poo.... We're in our three wk casts after the tenotomy so hopefully we'll get regular. He doesn't seem to be in any discomfort. I dread the next bowl movement. mfolkemer_1999 mlfsmith@...> wrote: My 10-week old never has a dirty diaper (unless I give him a suppository). Guest guest
Karo syrup has been the charm for a dirty diaper every 3-4 days. All seems better since he is out of the casts. I'm sure it is a coincidence, but its actually nice to have dirty diapers again. Now I know I'm losing my mind. > > > Are you breastfeeding or is your baby on formula?
