Hello Jen,

I tried to send a reply the other day but I had let my Yahoo email

acct lapse :(...will write again...

It is nice to see someone else from Canada on the site, especially

from Vancouver!! We live in Coquitlam, our daughter Grace was born at

Royal Columbian on July 21, 2004 with RCF (undiagnosed). She also has

one kidney which is why we think the CF went unoticed throught my

many ultrasound's.

When she was born, Dr. Pirani was away and we didn't know if it would

be OK to wait the week and a half for him to return before doing

something so we took her to Childrens for her first cast. I can't

even tell you the difference between how she was treated at Childrens

and how Dr. Pirani treats her!! First, at Children's she was placed

naked on a bed (5 days old) for at least 10 minutes while the doctor

asked us questions, she screamed bloody murder and I cried the whole

time! Second, the Ortho specialist who treats kids in conjunction

with the dr. we saw, we will call him Dr. M, was away at the time.

Dr. M told us that she uses a botox treatment as part of her

treatment of CF - whoa red flags big time...my girlfriend gets botox

injections in her forehead for wrinkles and I know that it freezes or

temporarly deadens nerves. Dr. M's tech then did the casting of her

foot unsupervised and used a really thick cotton batting not the thin

sock Dr. Pirani uses. Needless to say, at the end of the " treatment "

I asked Dr. M to please forward Grace's chart to Royal Columbian to

Dr. Pirani for further treatment, (I told him at the time that it was

because it was closer, this was not the reason) we were really upset

about the whole thing!! Dr. M said that he had heard excellent things

about Dr. Pirani and would have no problem forwarding her chart.

Dr. Pirani was able to correct Grace's little foot in three casts and

she did not need the tenotomy, he said that she was one of only a

very few babies that he had not performed the tenotomy on. I was glad

to hear this after doing research into the Ponseti mentod. My husband

and I feel so blessed that we kind of fell into this method of

treatment And Dr. Pirani has been wonderful!!! She has been in her

DBB's with Markell shoes for 3 weeks now and is doing great, did

fit 's shoes too, she was amazing, come to learn that she

had CF as a baby too.

Hope is doing well, when is his B-day? I wonder if we were

in hospital at the same time, I know we had a mother across from us

in our semi private room with a little guy born with BCF, is that

you? If so, how neat!!

In regards to your query about clothes, I found this great store in

the Lougheed mall called Children's Place (lower level), it has tons

of really cute outfits and sleepers with snaps all the way up like we

need and the prices are great!

Yours,

:-)
