My Livie was recasted at 2.5 years old because of relapse. She was put back

into the FAB at 14-16 hours day.

After Owen was recasted for a relapse, he did not go back to

24/7....we were told to just continue the FAB at 14 hours. Hope this

helps!

Actually, I was expecting a nightmare and was fully prepared for a nightmare,

but it turned out to be not such a big deal. It took her about 2 hours to

figure out how to walk with the cast on. While Dr. Ponseti was casting her he

was telling me that he would have to wrap the cast with fiberglass to reinforce

it so she wouldn't break it while walking. I thought he was nuts!! There was

no way that she was going to be able to walk with a thigh high cast that was

bent at 90 degrees at the knee. He was right, I was wrong! By the second day

she was getting around like an old pro!

She only had one cast, but had to wear it for two weeks this time around. After

the cast came off she was weak in that leg and had a slight limp for about a

week, but it eventually resolved itself.

After the cast she went back to the FAB, which turned out to be more of a trial

for us than the cast. Livie had been out of her brace for a year due to loose

ligaments and the bad advice of another doctor. So when she started wearing it

again, she was totally unfamiliar with it. It took her a few days to adjust and

we were completely non-negotiable on the issue. She realized rather quickly

that she was going to wear it no ifs, ands, or buts.

She wears it now 14 hours over night and 2 hours in the afternoon. Overnight is

usually not a big deal, but she still complains about having to put it on during

the day. She's also figured out how to walk with the brace on and gets herself

around quite well!

She's been back in the brace for just over six months now and is doing great!

I hope everything turns out just as well for you!!

Please tell me how she reacted to being mobile and then being put in

casts...was it a nightmare?
