Guest guest
My son has the same exact problem. I do too when I go on antibiotics- -bad GI problems. The cure?? I know it sounds odd--Acidophilus. You can get it at any health food store and probably at any regular drug store (SavOn, WalMart, etc.). Ashton takes 1 pill a day (he is 21 months and 24 lbs). It can't hurt you and our regular adult doctore recommends it. It helps balance out the flora in your GI when you are on antibiotics. For her butt--dry it well (we often use a hairdryer on the cool setting for a minute or so). Then put on a little bit of antifungal (Lamisil cream works), then a little bit of anti-itch hydrocortisone, and then very thick layer of diaper creme (preferably the thick desitin or straight zince oxide). Just keep piling on the cream until you can't see her skin. Let her run around naked if you can. Add all this together and Ashton's butt is very nice and healthy. Good luck! -- > > > Every time (almost six years old) is on any type of antibiotic, she > gets a terrible, ugly yeast infection. She uses anti-fungi cream when it > rears its horrible head. Guest guest
I second the acidophilus recommendation for yeast. You could also use a diluted vinegar rinse (vinegar and water...be careful, test first, it could sting if it's very raw) to rinse her bottom preventatively when she is on antibiotics to additionally help keep the yeast at bay. )O( mama to , 2yo, w/CF, and , 4yo, no CF Re: yeast infection My son has the same exact problem. Guest guest
Hi Louise, Our son also has had some trouble along these lines. We have him on acidophylus powder once a day. 1/2 teaspoon in his morning milk. It has no taste and he doesn't even know he is drinking it. Also big doses of yogurt with acidophylus is very helpful. It took a while to work but it now seems to be doing quite some good. a mom of : 22yrs wocf, (Dolly) wcf in heaven, Emma 14 yrs wocf, Clara12 yrs wocf & 11 yrs wcf. grandmom of Iesha 22mths wocf Steve & Louise lmartin@...> wrote: Every time (almost six years old) is on any type of antibiotic, she gets a terrible, ugly yeast infection. Guest guest
Last time I was on antibiotics, my doctor gave me a pill to take. I think I had to just take one. I'm sorry, but I forget what it was called. I do recall, thought, that it was specifically for the purpose of preventing yeast infection. Or at least stopping it very fast. Guest guest
Hi, it doesn't happen to Fiona every time. But Fiona has learned now to be alert when she is on antibiotics and to tell us as soon as possible when the slightest itching starts. Ask your doc if it's possible to give the anti-fungal cream as a preventative measure against the yeast infections. Guest guest
I was just on an antibotic and had a yeast infection! I called the doctor and they said that MONOSTAT 3 DAY TREATMENT was what they recommended. I had already bought the 1 day treatment but after looking at the amount of medicine in it I decided to do what they said since there were smaller doses of medicine over the 3 day treatment period. It did get rid of the infection - thank God. I also ate yogurt before and after I took the antibotic - kinda covering it in yogurt so it would help the digestive system get rid of the overgrowth. I ONLY ATE YOGURT and did not insert any. Hope this helps!
