Guest guest
Many have succeeded with numbers more severe than yours. I wanted to answer you quickly to allay your worries but I will leave the details to the girls have been thru it. Don't abort if you want to have this child, your surgeon is uninformed. Lenore Newly post-op and pregnant?!?! I had my surgery July 2 and now I'm pregnant. I've lost 115 lbs so far (I'm 275 now) and I have about 100 more to go. I spoke with my surgeon and he recommends that I not " continue " the pregnancy. I haven't seen a ob/gyn as of yet, but I will next week. I'm against abortion, but I do want a healthy baby. Is there anyone out there that has been thru the same thing this soon after surgery? Of course this was unplanned and the timing isn't " right " , but I just can't see having an abortion. My fiance is supportive and is happy about the baby, so that is the least of my worries. PLEASE...if anyone has gone thru this please share your experience. Guest guest
Robin, Do not have an abortion. That surgeon has NO RIGHT to tell you that, the bastard. Their are many, many women on this group that have gotten pregnant alot sooner than you and have carried on to have beautiful healthy babies. Oh he just pisses me off, your surgeon that is. You will be fine, see your OB/GYN and get set up for your first appointment. Have him supplement the vitamins you already take by adding some prenatals vitamins and eat as healthy as you can even if it is several small meals a day, you can do this and you will be just fine. PLease read this group mail from everyone here and you will see how well they all do. Congratulations and best of luck with everything and keep us posted too. Guest guest
Tell your surgeon he is a moron. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Okay I am not going to be reasonable here. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE AN ABORTION! Many women have had healthy babies who have gotten pregnant too early -- before their weight has stabilized. You will have to monitor closely wha tyou eat -- increase your calories, and be very very strict about taking your vitamins. But there is no reason why you can't have a healthy pregnancy and baby. You do not have to take your surgeon's recommendation. Especially if the only reason he is telling you to abort is because you have had WLS last June. Sorry but that irks me. The problem is you may not lose as much weight as you would if you had not gotten pregnant -- it may slow your weight loss -- however in exchange for a few more pounds you will have a baby! What a trade off! But you do NOT have to have an abortion unless you want to. Rasley mailto: drasley@... Guest guest
Robin-there is no reason that you should have to terminate your pregnancy! There are so many other wonderful moms out there who have had healthy babies and weren't out of surgery as long as you! Always get a 2nd opinion, get in w/ your OB asap and get to doing what he/she wants you to do. I was only 9 mos. out when I got pregnant, and our baby is above average, we have u/s every 3 weeks, and my surgeon never told me to terminate anything. I believe that your baby's life is ordained by God and He is in control of everything that happens w/ your baby. So, congratulations, take care of yourself, enjoy this time being pregnant w/ your fiance who sounds like a wonderful support, and keep us posted!!! L P.S.-please post your story of your pregnancy that happened right out of surgery or shortly after for Robin! Newly post-op and pregnant?!?! I had my surgery July 2 and now I'm pregnant. Guest guest
Robin, I am so sorry that this doctor, who obviously doesn't have a clue, made such a horrible recommendation to you. If I were you I would quickly run the other way and never talk to this doc again, but that is just me. Yes, your pregnancy will be a bit more difficult because you are only 6 months post op, but not impossible and certainly no cause for abortion! I'm sure that others have already told you this, but there have been MANY women who have gotten pregnant soon after surgery, some very early out, like weeks, and have had smooth pregnancies and wonderful babies. If you can try to find a OB who is familiar with WLS, or at least one that is willing to learn. Make sure you get your protein in, as well as your water and vitamins, make good nutrition choices. Congrats on your pregnancy and I'm so glad that you found us here! Axelrod Newly post-op and pregnant?!?! I had my surgery July 2 and now I'm pregnant. Guest guest
Hi Robin, I my surgery on July 23rd and just found out this morning that I am 4 weeks pregnant. So, shocked, scared, and very happy were my reactions, now I'm just trying to be happy only lol My doctor has not suggested ending anything and I'm a little appalled that your doctor would suggest such a thing. It's nice to have someone to talk to who is about the same length of time out of surgery as I am. I go to see an obstetrician early next week and I'm eager to see how I need to change my vitamin dosage to keep myself as healthy as I can. I look forward to reading the archives and seeign what has been written here of other women's experiences also. " Mz Cafe Latte " wrote:I had my surgery July 2 and now I'm pregnant. Guest guest
Had my surgery Jan 8, 2003, conceived July 4th, 2003. Only one month farther out than you are now. My baby and I are both VERY healthy, and doing great! As of today, being 25 weeks pregnant, I still haven't gained any weight. I was 231 when I got pregnant, was 231 as of this past Thursday, and as of this morning I am 226. Please consider your options very carefully. There is no reason you cannot continue this pregnancy and have a perfectly healthy baby. Do the research, read all you can, and make an educated decision. Don't listen to the kneejerk reaction of your surgeon! Kari Hanson RNY 1-8-03 Aerin Hanson EDD 3/26/04 > I had my surgery July 2 and now I'm pregnant.
