Guest guest
You can gain back some weight if you eat continually and if they are the wrong, old junk food like before. This surgery gives us a great beginning where we cannot eat that much at first and you are basically forced into dieting but you don't really feel real hunger, maybe in your head at first, and then at about 12 months or so your pouch has stretched a little where you can eat a little more per sitting but not much more. It seems the pouch will empty out quicker so you may get into a bad snacking habit, don't get into that habit though, eat healthy snacks... I am 14 months postop and currently 8 weeks pregnant and I still do not have a gigantic appetite so I have to eat a couple extra small snacks a day, like fruit or something else good Good Luck with your surgery and enjoy your new life:) ROBIN, NEW YORK AGE-41 OPEN RNY OCT. 18TH, 2002 DR. Guest guest
, I had my surgery 7/2/01 and neither I nor the many people I have met have gained all their weight back, but I do know that most of us have experienced putting on weight again, some as much as 50lbs. All of these people put on weight because they were eating things that they knew they were not supposed to eat. It is possible to put on weight with the RNY surgery when you graze all day long on high calorie foods. Though when you are learning about the surgery they talk about dumping and that you will not be able to eat sweets and high fat foods, but everyone I know personally can eat at least some sweets and high fat foods so you can't rely on dumping as a control tool. Now everyone I know who has put on weight by eating the wrong things (me personally 40lbs) has lost it when they got back on track and started following the guidelines once again, (me personally didn't have any problem losing it all again thank God!). You must remember that this surgery is a TOOL, it is not the solution. I also did this to help me be able to conceive and I'm happy to report that I am 21 weeks pregnant and so far everything is going just fine. Good luck on your journey! Axelrod So what happens after a few years, anyway? I'm so happy to have found this group - I'm 38 and something over 300 pounds, and I'm considering WLS primarily because I want to become pregnant soon. Don't have much time left for that at my age! So I'm wondering, for those of you who had surgery a few years ago: is it true in your experience that most WLS patients gain the weight back eventually, as I've read? (I'm just starting my research, so I haven't checked this out carefully yet.) It's hard for me to imagine how someone with a tiny stomach COULD gain a hundred pounds or more back, but I keep running into this statement, and I'm wondering... Thanks for any info you all can point me to!
Guest guest
, This isn't the question, but Just thought I'd share my thoughts!! LOL! If your considering surgery and are in a rush to get pregnant, I'd STRONGLY suggest the lap band that they can adjust when you get pregnant.. Just my ..02 I can't answer your other question.. I'm not yet a year out.. JenNY So what happens after a few years, anyway? Guest guest
" is it true in your experience that most WLS patients gain the weight back eventually, as I've read? " I don't know what type of WLS you have researched, but the RoueNY gastric bypass has a very high rate of success. You can't go back to all of your nasty former fatty- eating ways and expect to continue to lose. For some reason, people have it in their heads that it is the easy way out of being fat. It wasn't easy at all. It is a weight loss TOOL, and you must learn how to use your TOOL for it to remain effective. Like I said, I don't know where you are researching, but I would start finding much more reliable resource information.
