Guest guest
Hi All - First, I wanted to thank everyone for the great information this site has provided me. I went yesterday for my Level 2 Sono with my Perinatal Physician ( I am high-risk because I have 2 uterii - yes I'm strange hahah) My GB surgery has nothing to do with why I am high-risk. We found out it is a girl - we are thrilled - but the bad news came at the end - he showed us 3 markers as they call them for Down Syndrome - the first is a echogenic focus in the heart, one in the bowel, and the fact that the arms and legs are measuring a little behind the body - has anyone everyone had a echogenic focus? I am scheduled for an amnio - as that is the only way to 100% determine or rule out - please send prayers as we are very nervous about the procedure. Please give me advice on how this procedure feels. Any cramping? etc. The results will be OK one way or another - we will love this baby girl regardless - It is a little scary thinking about it though - Thanks for your help and prayers - Jennie - Gastric Bypass 7/10/03 387.5/265 EDD 7/28/

I had found out about the nasal bone when I had my ultrasound 2 weeks ago and they told me that the bone was very well developed and that it was a good sign that things were fine. I hadn't known that before either. Thanks for the good information! Dee

Guest guest
Hi Jennie, My prayers go out to you. i will be praying for you, I know how stressful it can be. When I was pg with twins ( I lost both). I had an amnio to rule out why their growth was delayed. Anyway I had to do an amnio on both and so I actually had it twice the same day, one stick for each baby( 2 sacs). The needle is terribly long but very thin, it did not hurt going in. You will feel cramping at least I did as the fluid was being drawn out and a little afterwards, it was not terribly painful and the cramping lasted only a few hours. You will be fine. > Hi All - > > First, I wanted to thank everyone for the great information this site > has provided me. Also, they are often missing a nasal bone. I tested positive for the blood test for downs but nothing in the ultrasound indicated downs. As far as the amnio, many hugs, prayers, and well wishes. As long as you love this baby no matter what, she's a very lucky girl!! em > Hi All - > > First, I wanted to thank everyone for the great information this site > has provided me. Guest guest
I had am amnio last October- I was pretty nervous as to how it would feel, but it was alot better than I anticipated. They hook you up to the ultrasound so they can see exactly what they're doing. They put the betadine on your tummy for disinfecting, and the doctor takes a long but very thin needle and inserts it into your tummy. I didn't feel the needle going into me, only a slight cramp as it went into my uterus. I was told to breathe normally, because my first instinct was to deep breathe to relax, but that makes your tummy move, so you can't. They draw out the fluid which takes about 15-30 seconds, then pull the needle out. At that point, when they pull it out, I felt another very quick cramp, then that was it. I had no residual cramping after, and I was just told to take it easy for the rest of the day. I had it at about 3pm in the afternoon and went back to work the next day. It was on a Monday and I went to regular bowling league Wed night. Guest guest
Hi Jennie, I have had an amnio with both my pregnancies. The needle they use is very long but slender. The stick did not really hurt, when it actually enters the uterus I felt a sort of cramp. The entire procedure took about 10 minutes, they guide the needle via ultrasound so the baby is safe during the procedure. The pain was not bad at all. The waiting 2 weeks for results is the hardest part. Good Luck and know that God is in control. My prayers are with you. Terri Very Scared about Amnio - ?
