Seeking some advice and/or knowledge.

My son has had a horrible time with reoccurring. He is 12 months old

and has had two heel cord lengthings and too many castings to count.

Last month we finally took him out of what we hoped was his last set

of casts. He went straight into the shoes. His feet looked

great. He's had very few sores/red markings with these shoes and he

even sleeps with them all night without a fuss. My husband and I were

so proud of how well he has kept his shoes on and looked forward to

today's doctor visit. Our doctor said the front of 's

(my son's) feet look great. However, his left heal is starting to

turn in (the tendon is fine, it is just the heal which is turning

in).

1. Is it true that the shoes mainly hold the correction in the

front of the foot? If so, what corrects the heal area?

2. Also, we also noticed that he has been getting red marks on

the inside of his feet (just bellow the big toe) right where the

lowest strap is on the shoes. Could this be an indication

that the front of his feet are also reoccurring?

Thanks!

What doctor are you seeing? Is it a Ponseti doctor? Sounds like the feet are

not being corrected to begin with. The shoes HOLD a proper correction - they do

NOT correct the feet. sorry this is brief, just wanted to respond while I was

here that seems you need a 2nd opinion from a knowledgeable doctor.

As long as the feet are " fully " corrected when the child goes into the shoes

you should not have any problem with reoccurence. You should keep the

shoes on for 23 hours a day for 3 months. After that you keep them on 16

hours a day and then you should be able to avoid all relapse. As long as

there is a bend in your bar then the shoes will hold the dorsiflexision

(heel) correction as well as the forefoot. What doctor are you seeing?

From your email about your son being in too many casts to count shows that

your doc is not proficient in the Ponseti Method. It does not take that

many casts to correct the correction no matter how bad your sons feet are.

's right. I had my daughter treated at home and when the doctor told me

about a 2nd lengthening, HELLO! RED FLAG! I contacted Dr. Ponseti and

basically he started treatment again. Instead of 5 to 6 casts we thought she'd

need, only 3 - she's on her 3rd right now and next week, he will be having her

TAL done and then a three week cast to shoes - my doctor here at home, Cari,

claimed to be practicing the Ponseti Method - although he followed SOME of the

things Dr. Ponseti does, it wasn't the true Ponseti method.

I want to thank the parents here and my other clubs that really pushed me to see

things clearly!
