Guest guest
Stride Rite makes shoes in a wide width and also high tops. These are what I had to get Kelsey when she was wearing the AFO and they seemed to work well for her. If you do not have a Stride Rite store near you, you can order them online at www.striderite.com. There is even a function on there to help you size them. Also, many JCPenney stores carry some STride Rite shoes although they usually do not have the complete selection. Guest guest
I haven't gotten to that stage yet with my little one, but with my other children I took them to a store called Stride Rite. They have very good high top shoes for new walkers, or children begining to walk. Someone else will probably be able to help you more. Guest guest
We don't have the stride rite store here anymore, and the stores that do carry them, don't go down to a size 2 in the wide width. grrr. I will have to look back online again, I had trouble finding them last time...maybe I was too frustrated by the prices? hehe! Thanks, I will check again. Any other ideas on how to encourage him to keep his feet down? > > >o.k., major accomplishments this week for lots of kids on this board, > >THANK YOU LORD!!! Guest guest
, Do you have one of those stationary mega play systems, where you sit them in? During 'free- time', put her in the play system, make sure the seat is set where her feet touch the bottom. Over time, she will start to stand more. They figure out on their own how to use the muscles in their legs. I know the feeling, everytime I try to 'force' to try and stand she gets the spaghetti leg syndrome. She dangles like a string puppet when I try to hold her up. Its quite funny. But not while I am trying doing to do it, of course. Guest guest
I don't know where you live, but right now they have boots with taller tops in all the stores in Minnesota. I would think at some of the on line stores they would carry them too. My daughter LOVES her jumper. It is just one of those that hang from a door frame but I think it helps to keep some of the weight off of her feet and still lets them use the muscles in their legs. Guest guest
, While I am of the school that " barefoot is best " --especially before kids are walking--Jonah wants to wear shoes ALL the time. I guess that just feels more normal for him. I got a great pair of little Elefanten shoes for him on eBay. These are wonderfully well engineered little shoes, they retail for $50+. I got a brand new pair for $13. European size 17 is about a 2.5. (So, you could do a search for Elefanten 17 and see what you come up with). Guest guest
My othopedist recommended we buy shoes that are as straight-last as possible - I'm not sure why though. But Stride Rite shoes are fairly straight-last I guess. I've also heard wonderful things about bobux shoes - and apparently wearing these shoes is the closest thing to being barefoot while still protecting the feet. If anyone else has tried these, let me know because I'm thinking about ordering a pair! www.bobux.com Darby Livi 3/15/04 bi cf dbb 16/7 EDD#2 5/12/05 > > o.k., major accomplishments this week for lots of kids on this board, > THANK YOU LORD!!! Guest guest
Those are just like the Robeez (did I spell it right this time? lol) I love the Robeez shoes so much. We haven't used high ankle shoes and I am unsure if she needs it either. (but she was also considered mild - if that makes a difference... I don't know) She either goes barefoot or wears cute girl shoes. Like Jonah, she loves her shoes and never has a problem putting them on. But she takes them off a lot when at home, and her socks. She's the only one of my kids who insists on taking her socks off. Guest guest
I don't use any special shoes whatsoever - just what I can find that fits, or is cheap, or is cute.....I have no shoe criteria. Currently he's in a little pair of canvas sneakers. Does your baby always cry if he stands up barefooted? What's your dr. say about it? I think most the time Dr. P recommends going barefooted which I do depending on how chilly it is. s. o.k., major accomplishments this week for lots of kids on this board, THANK YOU LORD!!! Guest guest
We love the Robeez. And have found that they wear--and stay on--much better than the Bobux. Both are straight last shoes, but not much good for wearing outside if it's wet out(they are all leather, including the sole). Though my 3 year old just pulls her rain boots on over them and she's good to go. Robeez just started making an awesome fleece-lined bootie too, for those in colder climes. True straight last shoes are hard to find, well besides the ones our kids already wear. Bear Feet(www.bearfeet.com) and Soft Star Shoes(www.softstarshoes.com) make straight last shoes with rubber soles. However, they provide little to no ankle support. And they are pretty pricey.
