I personally > have never thought this was true for most people opting to have an > amnio. I can see how some people might have said that... but I think that more people think that unless you're going to terminate if something is found to be wrong, that the risks of the amnio aren't worth it... which is different. For me..it wasn't as much a question about what would I do with the information... as it was a question about whether I was willing to take the risks associated with amniocentesis for whatever action I planned to take. If I planned to terminate...then the risks might be worth it. but if I were " only " going to save more money or read more books if something were wrong...then maybe the risks wouldn't be worth it to me. (obviously they were worth it to you...I'm not saying they shouldn't have been or should have been...just saying that for many people it's not that you SHOULD terminate if something is wrong, just that to THEM, if they weren't going to, then the risks wouldn't be worth taking...) As a side note...someone debating whether to do an amnio or not wanted to know what others chose to do.. IMO, it shouldn't matter. If 90% of the people on this board did it, doesn't mean you should. If 90% of the people on this board didn't do it, doesn't mean you shouldn't. You can only look at both sides, and then do what you feel is right for you. (BTW..many many MANY moms 35-40-45 don't have amnios...many MORE moms don't have amnios than have amnios. doesn't matter...you're not those moms, you're YOU, and this is YOUR baby, and only you can decide what is best for you and your baby...)
