Guest guest
hopefully you discussed this with your gastric surgeon and your ob/gyn...but...the advice i've been given and my friends have been given is : take extra precaution to not get pregnant for the first 12 mos post op... ok to start trying after 12 mos, but 18 mos would be best. NOW... i'm sure you will see many people on here who had healthy pregnancies closer to wls than 12 - 18 mos.... but... I'm sticking to the medical advice i've been given just to be on the safe side for the baby. good luck! mitzi 3/4/02 -155 lbs > Hello I just had surgery 12-30-03 and I am very happy. Guest guest
Hello there!! I am glad that you are happy and everything is working out okay. I know that every doctor is different but they will tell you to wait 12-18 months. I know there have been women that got pregnant earlier than that and have had very healthy babies. My suggestion from personal experience is to wait the 12 months. Best wishes and good luck to you. Guest guest
Not that I would recommend my situation..but here it is. I had a baby 5 years prior to my RNY. It took me 1 year to get pregnant at 292lbs. After I had my RNY I got pregnant just 7 weeks post op- unexpedctedly. I was naive and thought it will take me a while to concieve (which I wanted to do at 18 mo. pot op) and using no birth control I got pregnant. Everything worked out okay for me and the baby, but it was a very difficult pregnancy on my physically. I could barely eat from my extreme morning sickness and I was so fatigue-stricken. Hope this helps. Open RNY 2-18-02 359/138 1-16-03 andra Marie (born stillborn at 36 weeks following a car accident on 3-14-98) Any Advice > Hello I just had surgery 12-30-03 and I am very happy. Guest guest
There are many women on this group who lost weight to increase their fertility and it has worked well. I myself was not very fertile but i am pregnant now after just having a miscarraige in August. I NEVER thought I would get pregnant again since I Have such a hard time with it. My daughter was a Clomid and IUI baby, my twins were a surprise after many years of infertilty treatments. SSOooo anything is possible. Good Luck to you. Guest guest
It is recomended that you wait at least 18 monts to become pregnant. I too had WLS in order to improve my fertility( among the weight and health reasons) I tried everything Pre op to concieve from drugs to ovarian surgery. Well I am now 6 months post op and accidently pregnant 6weeks. We only had 1 chance of conception last month and here I am. Be careful post op it is really better to wait and many many women become so much more fertile. Good Luck - Diane
