Guest guest
has anyone been to a reproductive endocrinologist? I have an appointment tomorrow and was wondering what to expect. I had open RNY on 12/9/02 and I have lost 118lbs and I am at my goal weight, give or take 2 pounds. I have been trying to get pg for 3 months and went to the GYN a few weeks ago because I have been off the pill since December and my period has not come at all. I knew I was not pg as per home pg test. She did a bunch of blood work and found that my FSH and my Estrodal (spelling??) where both very very low. She referred me to a reproductive endocrinologist. I was just wondering what was going to happen?? Any help is appreciated.
Guest guest
when I went to a RE, I had a complete checkup just as with any MD or OB. They take a TON of information about your history (when started periods, how heavy, how long they last, regular or not, methods of birth control etc.) they ask about any secually transmitted diseases, if you know your blood type, any previous pregnancies and how they progressed, any problems/miscarriages/ uneventful pregnancies with your pregnancies- any abortions etc/ etc. Take with you any results of any lab work that may show you are low on anything- progesterone, estrogen etc. If you have been taking notes from the girls in here, tkae those with you since WLS is relatively widespread just recently, many OB's and RE's having had patients who have had WLS (or RNY WLS anyway). Take all of your medications with you- be prepared to tell who prescribed them to you and how long you have been taking them. They ask a detailed family history- your parents or grandparents or siblings having any medical or gynecological problems. (heart, lung, asthma, seizures, diabetes, heart disease or attacks, high cholesterol, stroke, etc etc etc). You will most likely have an internal exam- with a pap smear and any other vaginal cultures for sexually transmitted diseases. Most also do a breast exam for anything abnormal. Some do blood work that day- mine didn't since we knew right off what our plan of action would be- so my blood work was done later in the month on certain days of my cycle while taking clomid and Hcg injections. They will ask of course about your age, how long trying to get pregnant- depending upon your age- they will discuss how agressive you and your hubby want to be to get pregnant. They will ask if your hubby has any other children- and may order a sperm count for him. this is about all I can think of right off the top of my head. Good luck! sheila
Guest guest
, I go to a Reproductive Endocrinologist as my regular OB/GYN because he was the only one I could find who would actually treat my PCOS. I'm not actively TTC at all, but I did not just want someone to prescribe BCPs off-hand without actually testing me and finding out what was really wrong. It wouldn't make me upset to find out I was pg, let's just put it that way. Anyway, I really like my RE. He checked all my hormone levels, my blood sugar, etc... and officially diagnosed me with PCOS (just as I'd always known but never gotten an OB/GYN to act like it was anything they knew about) and right now he has me taking metformin (850 mg x 2) and Prometrium to help me have periods. I'm not 100% convinced that the Prometrium is working; I am having periods on time now, but they are always dark-colored and not as heavy as I think they should be. At any rate, I will give it another couple of months and then I will call him back to discuss it with him and see what other options there might be. Sorry, that was probably more info than you wanted! Just suffice it to say, I really like my RE. I'm glad your GYN referred you to one.
