Guest guest
Hi everyone: I've been a lurker here for a few months; I'm 30 years old, have never been pregnant, have been TTC for a couple of months, and I had my WLS in october 2001 (lost 160lb, woo hoo!). I wanted to warn people about the use of Lunelle (its a hormonal type of birth control exactly like the Pill, except its a monthly injection). I got on it almost as soon as I had my surgery, and even though I had heavy periods with it, I LOVED the idea of not having the hassle of birth control. WRONG! On month 12 I was suddenly informed by my doctor that the product had been recalled as it had major side effects, the worse of which is a sort of 'artificial sterility' which at the time had affected quite a few women. This sterility affected women who had been off the medication for a while. Pfizer (the drug company that produces Lunelle) did not know at that time why this had happened, or how to reverse the problems. My doctor knew I was getting closer to my goal weight, which was our cue to start trying for a baby, so she virtually prohibited me from taking it ever again. Now I don't mean to terrify anyone that is seeking birth control; I have been through the years one of those women who would take 'anything' as long as it meant not getting pregnant. I'm still very freaked out by my Lunelle experience, so I purposely try not to even think about that, especially as we're finally starting to try and have a baby (trying to think happy thoughts and all that). I don't know what else has happened with the whole Lunelle thing; they might have changed the formula and made it a whole lot better from the time I took it, I don't know. I wanted to share this freaky experience with all of you because I think we as women tend to put our bodies through anything in the name of child-bearing, be for or against it. We tend to forget that our health is at risk. We need to make well informed choices before leaping into consuming ANYTHING so please research this or any drug before you begin taking it. I pray to God that I have not hurt myself by taking this drug (or for the long years on the Pill either) but I guess only time will tell. Even though I hate even thinking about Lunelle, I felt I needed to warn you. Its a new(ish) product, and drug companies are generally anxious to deliver sometimes skipping many steps of research and development. Be careful, ladies. And thanks to all of you for the wealth of knowledge this group has been, is and will continue to be.

Guest guest
I joined this group for information for when I decide to become pregnant, and I just spoke to my OB about Lunelle. They said that it is not an option anymore. It is still pulled off the market. At this point, I am way to scared to get pregnant, eventhough I am so ready. I already have a daughter who is going to be 4 in June. My OB is going to put me on the NuvaRing in May when my next Depo is due. I really want to get off of Depo because of the weight gain side effects. Bobbie St. Louis Open RNY 10/20/03 -75lbs
