If you feel that it hasn't been answered SATISFACTORILY by the ones who did take the time to respond, you should talk with your Healthcare Provider/OB GYN/Fertility Specialist and your Gastric Surgeon. I cannot make all of the 1,440+ members reply to your question. If you aren't getting the answer you want, I am sorry for that. People without experience using birth control can't answer you. People with fertility problems can't answer you. So that narrows down your field considerably of those who could respond. There are only so many methods of birth control available. I for one, approved a post telling you all of the different types available and why or why not she didn't like them. I also replied to you that since being on this group for over a year now, many MANY women have gotten pregnant after WLS on the birth control pill because the BCP isn't effective in some after WLS. It depends on the type of surgery and the amount of stomach bypassed. Since we *malabsorb* food it only makes common sense that we would also malabsorb medications and vitamins as well, right? Since you are getting feedback to your question, your Dr should be the one you ultimately talk your birth control concerns over with. Guest guest
Whew! Thank You Sheila! I am one of those people who have not responded to this question since I had some fertility issues and therefore didn't have anything of value to add. I was offended that it was said that our group was not interested in this issue when I have seen several posts regarding this question, and personally I'm kinda sick of seeing this same question posted over and over again, I'm sorry if that sounds rude and insensitive but thats how I feel. If you read the description of the list, (here is the first part of it) << >> This implies to me that this list is about pregnancy, not preventing it. I also get the feeling that positive replies are sent to people in a half hearted way just to once again ask the same question. tte, I'm sorry that you feel that the members of this group have not taken the time to support you or answer your questions, but I feel that resentment is now building up from others because you keep pushing for answers we don't seem to have and now you are accusing us of not being " interested " , that kinda hurts. I for one don't want to see you leave the group or anything but I do think that you are trying to get answers here for a topic that really isn't a topic covered by this group. I truly hope you find the answers your seeking as I can tell that you are trying to get some good data for all women who have gotten WLS and are in a similar position. Guest guest
Hi, Do not mean to offend anyone but wanted some good positive answers from different members with different situations. I hope you were not offended in what I asked, but I have gotten some mixed reviews. Some of us want a good method of birth control because we also want our bodies to have time to heal, as it should, not that we don't want to become pregnant in the future. I will not leave the group. I have giotten some very valuable information which I intend to use in the future. Again sorry if I offended anyone, wan't intended to do that. Thanks

Guest guest
tte, I'm glad that you aren't leaving the group and honestly I see that the information you are trying to gather will benefit many. Does your surgeon have any sort of relationship with OB's? If not, maybe this is something you can foster so that they can both use their expertise to figure out what would be best for women like us. Getting good information for WLS patients is difficult because there is so much bad stuff out there that is continually passed around, one good example of this is that some docs STILL recommend for patients to take TUMS to get their calcium in. Your quest is an honorable one and you are a good person to keep searching.
