Hi,

Congratulations on your good news. I was hoping you could answer this question.

Since your weight loss surgery what type of birth control were you using and

what kinds of birth control did your dr.suggest. I hear that the pill is not as

effective after surgery and wondered what were the best alternatives. The

patch, the new IUD's. Thanks

tte-

I was on the depo shot for 4 months before my wls surgery. I stayed

on it another 6 months after. Then, I started to get incredibly

moody and depressed so I had to get off of it! At that point, I was

under 200 lbs and they suggested the ortho evra patch. The patch has

worked for almost a year but now I'm experiencing some break through

bleeding so I'm going to go off of it and start trying in a few

months.

I would definitely be leary of the pill as a post op with all the

malabsorption issues. But your doctor may be the best to ask on this

topic. I have a friend who is 4 months post op and they just

started her on the nuva (spelling) ring. Her Dr. thought that would

be a better option than the patch.

Hope this helps.
